Problem simulating Mythic hair

I've been trying to simulate Mythic hair on G9: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-mythic-long-hair-for-genesis-9?srsltid=AU7gw4UBTDD0FDDbmslun-ntYtYl56eUcXQzKyuP4t_6dAgwRBSL-koM

So, I posed and simulated the hair first, then did the other figure and props... then decided I didn't like what the hair was doing and tried to re-simulate it from a different pose.

Daz didn't like this.

The simulation freezes without moving a single frame (using animation to get the hair to drape across another figure. Beginning with standard pose, memorised pose off). At this point, I had two figures, a bed and pillow props with a few dformers and push mods, one non-dforce hair prop and one dforce bed sheet. I froze everything & made it all invisible, apart from what I needed to drape the hair over... and then the sim froze without moving a single frame. I've had to force quit and reopen more times than I can count (and of course, I've saved over my original scene where the hair had draped, even if I didn't like it!).

Since then I've made everything invisible; deleted shells & hair; deleted everything and used primitives instead; started a whole new file with fresh figures & fresh hair; started a new file with fresh figure, hair and nothing but primitives.

The hair will drape as long as there is NOTHING else in the scene. But that's no good to me. If there's literally a single primitive in the scene, it won't move a frame. I even left it overnight: nothing.

Any ideas? Is this just a really tricky prop? I've draped it in a standing position before, but this time I wanted her lying down.

Images show the freezing on the start frame with just the basic primitive, and the end pose where she's supposed to be on the props she's supposed to be on.

Update: I started a third new scene with base G9 and a random pose, and it simulated. Added a primitive, and it simulated. One by one I changed parameters until I could get the pose I wanted, but I didn't change the figure. (I thought I had tried the base figure before, but perhaps not in an empty scene) So, apparently what it didn't like was Victoria 9.

I have since added shape and materials, instead of loading a new character into the figure cos I dion't trust it.
