Sign Language Letter Poses

I have spent a fair bit of time creating some partial poses for G8F and G9 of sign language letters in the following sign languages:

  • British, Australian and New Zealand Sign Language (BANZSL). 26 two Handed Poses.
  • American (ASL) 26 Single Handed Poses
  • French (LSF) 26 Single Handed Poses
  • Spanish (ESL)
  • German (DSG)

There are a total of 144 poses for each generation due to the special character poses in the Spanish and German sign languages. The download sizes are too big for the forum and Renderosity has upload approvals limits. I have finished them all, but there'll be a bit of time for the ten packages to be created, given promo images and uploaded. The first 3 are for G8F, the remaining  G8F and G9 poses coming later.

The poses are partial poses for the upper chest and one or two arms as appropriate. The BANZSL poses are not mirrored for left handers even though this seems to be permitted. The American, French Spanish and German Sign languages are all derived from the Old French Sign Language, so they share a number of the letters. I have not included the animations in the French derived languages for J or Z as I can't do animations.

So the poses uploaded are:

British, Australian and New Zealand Sign Language G8F

American Sign Language G8F

French Sign Language G8F

I do hope someone finds at least one of these slightly useful - given the couple of months it's taken I'd like to think I haven't totally wasted my time!

Regards,

Richard

This is very cool... But why are they full poses for the languages that do letters one handed? Did you do J-start and J-finish? Z is a bit busier. Are the numbers included?

I said "The poses are partial poses for the upper chest and one or two arms as appropriate". None are full poses to the best of my knowledge - and I did save them all myself. The full arm pose is used to get it in the right place on the body. No numbers, I couldn't find an adequate reference for them. I did an end, not a start, to the J & Z poses. Regards, Richard.

    Next two sets are

Spanish Sign Language Letters for G8F (LSE)

The Spanish Set includes the special letters CC, LL and RR. They hould be animated, however I still can't do animations. You can animate the double letters yourself - for example 'CC' by using the single letter 'C' as the start pose of the animation, and the double letter 'CC' as the end pose of the animation.

German Sign Language Letters for G8F (DGS)

The German set includes the special Umlaut letters, eg 'A Umlaut' etc. Other special letters include 'SCH' and 'SS'.

These pose sets conclude the 144 G8F poses and the next uploads will be the G9 pose versions of the letters. I have done all the poses, but I have yet to do the promo images, which means there will be a little delay before they are uploaded to Rendo and a further delay while the poses are approved at their rate of 3 uploads (max) per day and sometimes less.

    Regards,

    Richard

Looks like a mistake in the British image. You seem to have two 'Z' images. The one for 'L' should be index finger on the palm of left hand. Two fingers for 'N' and three for 'M'.

I'll check at home this evening. Thanks for letting me know, though, much appreciated.

I have gone through the .duf and .tip images and they all agree with the attached reference list - except possibly 'K' as I can't interpret what I'm seeing in the 'K' image, it's very different from the reference image I used at home. As far as I can see there is only one Z.

The L, N & M images are as you say they should be, just the .tip image is not at a great angle.

I will check the pose .duf files this evening as I don't have DS on this machine.

    Regards,

    Richard

This is what I mean. Both the 'Z' and 'L' are showing the same sign.

Gaah! You're right - I got it messed up. The Promo image has a two Zeds. And I've just finished going through all the poses to check they're all correct (they are) and was going to ask for more details. Harrumph. I'll see if I can update/correct the promo tomorrow. Regards, Richard.

Will you make any for G9 as well and include the american version in the list you have.

  • richardandtracyrichardandtracy Posts: 8,206

@FaerylWomyn, I am not planning on doing a G9 version.

They are already done. The same 5 language groups as above. I just need to do the promo images and upload them. Which, actually, is not an insignificant task in itself.

    Richard

@Fishtales: The promo image on the DAZ page is corrected. The Rendo one is a bit more difficult. Will deal with it tomorrow. Regards, Richard

I'm glad I got in touch. My mother taught me signing when I was six, seventy years ago, and I noticed it right away. I also had friends who signed but mostly they could lip read and  I only had to sign words they didn't see. I still see one when out shopping and we get some funny looks as we converse without making any noise, I just automatically just form the conversation without speaking and only occasionally sign :) I taught my wfe the Alphabet which came in handy when she was a receptionist and got the deaf customers to deal with as nobody else could understand them. I have also taught the alphabet to my grandchildren and taught them how to sign their names.

I think it should be taught to six and seven year olds in Primary schools. They may never use it again but will always remember how to do it.

  • I'm glad too. For the BSL/BANZSL signs I was able to clarify with my daughter when I didn't understand the images, but I messed up the promo fighting GIMP 3.0.26- got annoyed fighting the text box because it insisted on black monospaced simplex font, 96 pixels and every character I re-typed had to be re-specified, and I loaded the same letter render twice in my irritation. I am sorry for that. For the other language letters, I tried to get photographic reference photos, but they seem incredibly difficult to hunt down. Regards, Richard

    Now for G9

G9 British, Australian and New Zealand Sign Language Poses. Same limitations as before.

    G9 American Sign Language Poses

Character used is Mousso's Kim. Once again the file sizes are too large for forum attachments, so are available at Renderosity freestuff.

    Hope they're useful.

    Regards,

    Richard
