I just got about halfwat through a really cool really big (for me) project when I decided, hey I better save this so I don't lose all this work. Naturally when I trie=d to do this Daz locked up and gave me we have to close box. Tell me again that AI isn't out to get us all!

My son has an office next to my room from where he games with friends. He has to tell said friends his mother is not being murdered, Daz Studio has crashed again.
I find saving scene subsets tend to be less crashy than scenes
no help after the fact but something to try in future
I think it's computers in general, not just AI. Although I did nickname my late 10 year old laptop HAL because it got so crazy-annoying.
Sorry about the crash, I hope you were able to recover some of the work.
I know it doesn't help the frustration after it's happened to you... However almost everyone can commiserate from a point of shared experience.
I always save every 10-20 minutes and always before a dForce simulation or render. That way I've lost a minimum amount of work. Comes from doing FE Analysis models in DOS in the late 1980's, where if you sneezed wrong in the room nextdoor the machine would crash.

...I perform intermittent saves while working as I am on ancient hardware (now 15 years old) that doesn't have the memory and CPU resources most systems possess today for handling the heavier loads of newer textures and HD. I built it when 3DL with UberEnvironment was still the standard for rendering. I did mess around a bit with with Reality/Luxrender, but to decribe the speed as "glacial" was being "generous" ("geologic" was more appropriate).
I tried one of the automatic save programs and ended up uninstalling it. I got tired of being interrupted when searching for an item, or adding extra metadata to a product (where everything was dumped into Architecture or Furnishing or General) and to find I have lost time in what I am doing. Or even when I had saved a file being worked on, the program continued to make their repeated saves. It even interrupted my renders.
But, I kick myself everytime I get to a point where I am really happy with what is on the screen and the Mac or the Windows freezes and crashes. And I hadn't saved at all. I try now to do it.
I also have had to close every other app except what is working on DAZ, because new OS updates seem be eating my resources. (Doesn't matter type, both are doing this and my machines are relatively current.)
I save now as much as I can, and try to remember not to overwrite my default scene.
Indeed, I have taken to separating my scene into subsets and everything loads far more smoothly, and it doesn't take an age to load.
Added bonus, you can pick which elements to use in other scenes as well.
Make sure you chnage the file name being saved to, if not every time then frequently - I usually, in any application, use a two digit number followed by what the file is in a folder named for the project.
Sequential save is a very good idea!
