Ideas For New DO Bundles

So I'm always complaining about the lack of variation in DAZ's current character bundles, and with good reason I think. But somewhere someone wrote that the artists creating the bundle content probably don't get too much time to sit and come up with new ideas, what with the DAZ rapid release schedule. Makes sense to me, at least as a possible reason. So I'm thinking we could maybe collect our ideas and wishes for new G9 characters and their bundles here.

Ideas from off the top of my head, am especially intrigued by era bundles with overarching themes - for instance:

    • 1850s - the Great Exhibition: male and female walking costumes, children's clothes and poses of running around excitedly, eating ice creams, pointing at stuff and such: a section of the Crystal Palace, booths with the wonders of the world of the day
    • 1890s - Sherlock Holmes / Jack the Ripper: Victorian London underbelly ./. fancy townhouses, a bustle dress, a Sherlock Holmes clothing set, a set for a docker or a gangster of the time, a prostitute clothing set (also matching the era mind you)
    • 1940s - WW2 on the home front: a 1940s house with props and poses for a family gathering fearfully around the radio ./. a group of people celebrating a wedding despite everything, all with matching clothes and hair, in the same house, with deco and such
    • 1980s - Rainbow Warriors: fierce eco activists ./. 1980s stock market hustler ...

    I would actually buy those...

Moved to Product Suggestions as it is not a Daz Studio application topic.

    I like the suggestions.

How a bout a Regency-adjacent Bundle themed around Mary Anning, dinosaur hunting around Lyme Regis?

If all of the choices have to be Eurocentric or connected to only people descended from Europe, I would think a fairly accurate Renaissance Dutch character might be fun. If we can broaden the scope, I would love something connected to something like ancient Babylon, West Africa, some character set of actual extraterrestrials, some constructivism or other art movements like art nouveau or arts and crafts.

Yes, there are a lot of cultures and areas that are entirely neglected or get only a catch-all set covering every era.

As a sci-fi & fantasy fan, I'd also like to see alternate takes on those genres.

Retro-futuristic isn't just steampunk (though I also love steampunk) and future 50's (like the movie 'Planet 51', which is also ace). How about retro-futuristic based on Da Vinci's renaissance visions, or if the Roman empire had continued?

There was some Afro-futurism in store (though more could be explored) but how about Chinese or Indian futurism too? Or Indigenous American? (Though I gather some people might be wary of offending certain cultures within those spheres if it became a charicature - could be done respectfully though).

Fantasy takes on other themes would be great too - Shadow Run gives an example of fantasy meets cyberpunk, but mishmashing others would be fun. Fantasy-medieval police/fire/EMTs, Magical corporations, Fantasy restaurants, Fantasy sports, you name it.

    Just by 3 cents.

If, for popularity reasons, we have to stick to European and North American settings, I would love a renaissance Da Vinci set, either retrofuturistic or not with David 9 and Mona 9. It might be too genre but a Dutch Renaissance with a Stonemason Netherlands canals, clothing out of Vermeer and Rembrandt, a lovely little nightingale. I've always dreamed of a futuristic firefighting and police set with cool robotic or aerial fire engines and police cars.

Yeah, with respect to the OP, that's not that much variation.

People, I wrote this off the top of my head, as I said, and these are eras / subjects I work with in other parts of my life. No need to read anything eurocentric into this and poison this thread.

I also fail to see how the activists / hustlers idea is biased in any way. There were / are climate activists, for instance, in other countries, and people trading in the stock markets as well. A pretty universal theme I should think. I picked the 80s because of the Rainbow Warrior incident. The Great Exhibition idea also actually invites non-European contributions, even a little criticism would be possible here by showing how other cultures were (are?) treated like fairground attractions (which related to the young US at the time as well, coincidently, at least from a British viewpoint).

This gave me an idea for another set of bundles though which is cool, I'll post this separately.

it is just my observation that people who purchase Daz3d products seem to love their blonde Vicky in a sword in a temple so we try to work with our limitations. Nonetheless, one could work in someone like Alessandro De Medici, who was the first Black head of state in Europe inro a Renaissance scene.Alessandro

Okay, so another general bundle theme could be story-centered bundles. These would revolve around pose sets which are different from what we usually see: not photoshoot or snapshot poses or depictions of everyday life, but poses to reenact  the story line of the bundle (this is, pose-wise, something I'd love to see again anyways, we had this last with G3 pose sets I think - like the Who done it set which is a DO). For instance:

    • Star-crossed Lovers (of course ...;-)): two or three pose sets, one for the lovers meeting, getting together and falling in love - one for, let's say, the families coming between them (so scolding and such), and the heartbreaking separation, and then maybe another one for the lovers pining after each other. Then props to go with this, dunno - balconies (;-)), park benches in hidden arbors, a letter writing set (or smart phone, whatever), windows to stare out of longingly ...).
    • Ghost Story: a choice of settings, like a typical spooky manor but also others, not so typical ones, maybe three or four; then of course the ghost which would be cool in different variations as well (a very scary one let's say, and a more ethereal version - should be setting applicable to all G9 and G8 at best, male and female, so not character-specific); and then the poses: the haunt starting (like fun family gathering but then someone is startled by something strange) - vibes ramping up, everybody peering suspiciously into corners - night terrors kicking in (shooting up wide awake in bed because it felt just like someone standing over you) - trying to find out what's going on (researching, or searching through the house) - and then a final set for either a good (ghost is released) or bad ending (new ghosts roam the halls).

Oooh, have more ideas but need to run now.

This is a really cool idea I think, the alterations could be add-on bundles. LOVE that!

I think artists don't lack time to conceive ideas, but rather time to create them...

In particular, there is a lack of time to create "characters".

I have a few ideas. One is to create bundled packages that correspond to the festivals of different countries and regions. This would create a lot of differentiation in the products. For example, for the Chinese Lunar New Year, there's only one old Year of the Tiger bundled package, but that completely lacks the festive atmosphere and is far from enough.

For example, summer temple fairs in Japan are usually held in front of shrines, with many food and game stalls. These "stalls" alone can launch a series of products, or there are fireworks displays held by the river. However, I have never seen such products here.

Furthermore, using myths and legends from various countries as themes would be rich enough; even with DAZ's current product line, piecing together the gods of Greek mythology would be difficult enough.

The issue here is these ideas (in most of this thread, not just above) are niche ideas. And while that's hard to avoid when trying to be unique, the question becomes does the PA have the passion for the niche proportionate to (or greater than) the number of sales lost to the idea's niche status.

The OPs ideas are exactly that, ideas. They are in no way a final result. What is being encouraged here are ideas.

I'd like to see more normal, everyday environment sets, there's plenty of characters and clothing out there already. Way too much fantasy and sci-fi too.

Buildings that are constructed as individual wall, floor and ceiling bones rather than the entire shell as one piece (that's just lazy IMO and frustrates customisation) with all doors and windows rigged. Fully rigged interior props too.

A decent and more realistic modular road/highway asset would be nice, the only ones available seem to be ancient and look pretty pants once rendered.

The problem is that almost anything from knights to cowboys to cyborgs to generic building materials (granted I would love to see the G9 characters to go with that) is going to be niche.  Ideally, each set adds to the diversity of the market.

First post-imperial European head of state, don't forget (depending on how you draw boundaries) Septimus Severus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Septimius_Severus

Just a quick reminder, the aim of this thread is to collect and exchange ideas for new DO bundles, nothing more, especially not to discuss problems of diversity and such. There's plenty of other arenas for this, so please. Let's stick with the topic.

I'd like to pick up what @garrett_3d said, that we don't get enough normal environments and props in general and in DO bundles specially. So true! Maybe this could be fixed by an extension of the 'here's an interesting character with an interesting job and its paraphernalia' theme that we do see pop up in bundles sometimes - like with that 'Fred 9 brings down the house' bundle, but with less celeb jobs and more acurate accessories, but still  interesting. And maybe these bundles could use stuff that's already in the store, there's really no need to create tons of the same kind of table or what have you.

For instance, we have this great series of instruments and poses (I think they're all in DAZ+). Why not incorporate some them in a character bundle for an orchestra musician or two? (I know garrett, but DO bundles just usually are character and clothes related, I don't think they're gonna generall change that.) Then give them a humble apartment to live in and a contrasting rococo stage to perform on, plus matching home / stage outfits (but realistic ones).

An add-on could be an opera singer, oh, and a ballet dancer working for that same theater. Yeah I know, we have ballet stuff, but hear me out. The opera singer could get the coolest costumes for various existing operas, the ballet dancer could get a training room and actual realistic pointe shoes with matching foot morphs (pet peeve of mine), and other costumes than just your basic short tutus - instead, a Giselle set, a La Bayadere set, maybe Romeo and Juliet, a modern one for a Balanchine piece ... They could have a set of training poses showing them actually working on arabesques and such, being corrected, doing the boring exercice stuff at the barre, wearing weird thick warming overshoes and torn tights. Most importantly, none of this would be done with their behind pushed out in a back-breaking way and their face weirdly suggestive, and they would.Not.Have.A.Big.Chest. devil

And they'd have to have a sensible projection morph because characters with small (ie ballet dancer size chests) look really silly with their tops bulging out above their sternums like a third breast. Regards, Richard.
