How can I tell if script-based products work in the new Daz?
in The Commons
Dear experts,
I was looking at a script in the shop:
https://www.daz3d.com/c66-drop-collide
And I wondered how we can know if it will work in the version of Daz that supports RTX50xx cards.
Could anyone clarify?
Thanks in advance!

There used to be a "compatible software" tag on product pages but for some reasons it was removed with the latest site remodeling (which was, IMO, a very bad idea). So for now if the product page doesn't explicitely mention DS6, your best bet is checking the commercial thread if there's one, or asking in the forums.
Drop Collide relies on the Hedge maker plugin. There's a new Hedge Maker 2 for DS6 now, but I'm not sure the script can be used with that or if it needs an update... I would suggest asking in the commercial thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/757511/
So far most updates were cases where the script worked in both verssions afterwards (or at least was supposed to, there have been a few packaging errors reported which were fixed afterwards)
I strongly advise that if you don't know what DS version a product is for, you should absolutely put in a support ticket. If Daz aren't being told that people miss the feature and badgered about when it's coming back, there's no incentive for them to restore it.
(And, to be honest, I suspect that the longer they go without restoring it, the harder it will be to convince them, because the more work it will be).
I am not sure the compatible software field ever said anything useful about which version of DS a product worked in. I never saw anything in that field except the lastest version of DS.
It was indeed not really useful to distinguish between sub-versions of DS4, as it always listed the latest one.
However major versions were listed as different softwares, so it would have been useful to know if a plugin or script was compatible with DS4 and/or DS6.
I don't really know why they ever did that; it really should have been left on the version it was tested on, otherwise it becomes meaningless if it's just batch updated.
Thanks, all! I put in a ticket to tech support asking them to have the author of the product clarify compatibility.

There was a short window when you might see a product that only said DS6.
Drop Collide works in DS 6.
