Coupons more frustrating than they are worth

omvendtomvendt Posts: 172

I am a Premium member, but I am not renewing. New to Daz, it seemed like a good deal to pay a steep fee but then to get $20/month in coupons. Turns out I rarely use the coupons because they are so frustrating to deal with. Most of the time, if I have artwork in my cart, the coupons don't work. No explanation given. If a coupon does work, then after I change the content of my basket a little, all of a sudden, the coupon is gone without warning. It takes the fun out of shopping, which is really bad for Daz Inc. since shopping at the store isn't exactly an essential purchase.

Advice to Daz: make it much easier to use the coupons.
- For the Premiere coupon have a link to "here is a list of things you can buy with this coupon".

- In the cart, automatically ask people if they want to apply a valid coupon and warn them if they are about to make changes that invalidates the coupon use.

- when members try to use a coupon that isn't valid, explain why it doesn't work.

I agree. The only coupon I use every month ist the character bundle. And sometimes I only use it because I have it, not because there is a bundle I really want. Of course there are offers sometimes, that are really great, but some months are very boring. The one thing we obviously have to be clear about is that they don't want to give us gifts—they want our money ;)

    I agree as well.

In fact, it's gotten to the point where everything is just too complicated for me.

The last straw was the recent "free" offering which was entangled with the percentage off offer.

I will not renew my DAZ+ membership.

I, too, find it much more difficult to use the coupons. A lot of that is the fact DAZ issues coupons for a lot of their sales, which make it impossible to use the membership coupons on a good deal. Its a great way for DAZ to make more moeny though, as you then have to find something else to buy in order to use the coupon at all. Of course, you don;t need to use any coupon DAZ offers, or buy anything at all, but DAZ makes it difficult to use what we pay for already.

In general, the shopping experience is more difficult than it needs to be. Qualifying purchases (usually today's new items) of stuff you don't really want, coupon codes which prevent you from using your two monthly coupons, items with a minimum price, items where discounts can't be applied, tokens, and inflated list prices (needed because of multiple discounts).  It's all a little confusing and unnecessarily time-consuming, and there are plenty of days where I end up just emptying the basket when I was initially willing to spend.

I'm sure Daz has considered this and considers it worthwhile and more profitable, and they're probably correct. Daz will have done the math on their end. Customers with irrational approaches--FOMO, "I'm saving by spending!", etc. are the best for the business.

Not using both coupons in a membership month and letting your subscription lapse? Maybe 10% percent of the time I don't use both coupons. No use in getting a bad deal just to say you used both coupons. That's a sunk-cost issue. And I only subscribe 4-5 months per year--That saves relative to a discounted annual subscription, and I do 90% of my Daz spending in the months with the best sales.

i run memberships pretty much every other month, or when the sales hit. I was doing Premier but decided DAZ+ this last time, just for the QC and Outlet pricing. Unfortunately that backfired as the products sofar have been nothing I want or need. I did manage to use my coupons. Premier really  shines when it comes to tokens. They add up fast. The free character bundle is OK too, although this month I grabbed the double  bundle for $16 deal anyway.

I've adopted a pretty regular approach to the Premeir coupons these days... the character bundle goes to a character bundle, obviously, while the $10 off and the DAZ Originals coupon usually goes toward one of the new ADD-on bundles for that month while it's still on sale, which usually ends up with that bundle being around $14 after tokens are applied, and then the $10 off store item coupon gets applied to the first big cart I have of the month with enough qualifying items that isn't already using a coupon for something.  Since they're all flat cash value discounts, it really doesn't matter beyond the fact taht I get $20 in credit and a free character bundle. On the other hand, what I now frequently let go unsused are the coupons that are offered on daily sale pages, as far too many of those offers are mainly restricted to a pool of older products that I either don't have, don't want, or both.

Now, on the other hand, over at Rendo where the coupons are almost always percentage off, with the percentage stacking on top of whatever existing discounts are being offered, I'm more inclined to build larger carts and wait for one of the weekly coupons to appear.

For ##_##PREMIER the items must list Daz as the/a vendor and must not be + items or otherwise in a special price category (Quick Grab, Outlet, and usually daily offers that work the saem way).

For ##_##SAVE10 the items must not be new (luittle flash on the product thimbnail in store or on the main image on the product page) and the total price of the items in cart must be $25 or more, excluding any tax. Again, special price items like Quicj Grab and Outlet are exlcuded, though + items are not. Items in the cart that don't qualify for the discount (new releases, Quick Grab etc) don't count towards the $25.

##_##CHAR-BUNDLE is good for one item per month from https://www.daz3d.com/premier-characters

$25 after all sales and tokens are applied. I've made that mistake more than once. I've thought I have the $25 and apply the coupon. Then I apply the tokens and the coupon disappears. I just thought I'd call that out since I've almost checked out without the coupon because of this mistake in the past.

Yes, that was why I specified the price in cart.

Has it recently changed that Quick Grab and Outlet don't count toward the ($25/$15 for D+) total? I've used these a few times to reach the minimum, and I know there are others who've done the same, since I found the tip here.

It's cool if it changed. I was good while it lasted.

No, they still count toward the threshold since they're non-new items. They just won't get discounted by the coupon, But as long as you have $10/$6 of non-QG/OS items, you'll get the coupon's full discount. So everything's as it was, and I'm guessing Richard just wasn't aware, since I shared that info only once or twice in the sales thread and haven't seen it mentioned often otherwise, so it was easy to miss.

Thank you, no I was not aware that they counted for the total - I had though only items that could discount counted.
