PAs Touched by Mad Genius

I stumbled on Mechasar's Mega Add-Ons Pack 1 and was struck by the diversity of products, ranging from fantasy to horror to loony humor. Most of these are G8.1 figures; hopefully G9 versions will show up in time.
I've only seen a few PAs with this sort of off the wall creativity. TheAntFarm comes to mind. I'd be intersted to hear about other PAs y'all have come across with similarly ecclectic repertoire, here in the Daz3D store or elsewhere.
Cheers!

It requires a hell of a lot of buy-ins to other products though to make it worth having....
yeah, the discussion about it and the PAs attitude actually put me off of buying any more of their products
I buy a lot of DAZ content but bundling stuff in a way you are literally required to buy their entire back catalogue to fully use it regardless of the "savings"
it's actually the reason DAZ freebies also trigger me when a large number are texture sets for items I don't want
and they are actually free
why would I pay for addons for items I dont want just to get a couple I do have
just charge more for the separate addons and I would buy them for the same reason I rarely buy bundles
RawArt is definitely a mad genius. I'd say he's the original mad genius. JoeQuick also, though he seems kind of quiet these days.
This bundle has a high barrier to entry; I waited until I owned most of the characters before purchasing it. Mechasar's characters are truly unique and suit my taste.
I'm a fan just grabbed his newest monstrosity too looks cool and I love his promos
It's not cheap, but it does go on sale... looks like I bought it for 70% off a few years back, and I'm sure it's been on sale for less at some point in the intervening years.
I really miss Joe Quick... he was a force to be reckoned with in the early days of Genesis but his releases are few and far between these days. Darkseal put out a lot of wild stuff back in the early days too. Unfortunately a lot of the PAs who think out of the box the most have moved elsewhere, most recently Oso3d and 3DUniverse...
I couldn’t be more flattered by this comment. Thank you all. If I may share my own opinion as well, I have to say that there are several great artists here who bring an amazing variety of products to the store.
Personally, I can't help but mention and appreciate the diversity and quality of Herschel Hoffmeyer’s creations, JoeQuick’s unparalleled imagination, RawArt’s huge range of characters, and Josh Crockett’s creatures, which have become a part of DS Store history.
But there are also many other incredibly talented artists who specialize in specific types of products, like wearables, environments, animals, hair, and they’re always a guarantee of quality.
garrett_3d,
Fair enough! I actually didn't make that connection and realize that the add-on pack required a ton of products bought beforehand. I was simply astounded by the range products in Mechasar's portfolio. In a world that's always tipping towards homogeneity, rinse-and-repeat experiences, and formulaic products, how is it that some PAs -- or 3D enthusiasts in general -- can tap into that rich source of creativity?
That was the mystery I was hoping to find answers for.
Cheers!
Believe me, I still haven’t figured out what attitude I’m being accused of, but I don’t think holding a grudge serves any purpose on an online store.
The line you wrote is exactly where it become clear that we have completely different views on the matter, and I’m speaking in general here, not just about my own products.
Nobody is holding a gun to anyone’s head and forcing them to buy a particular product. Users are free to choose what they want to buy, just as artists are free to decide what they want to publish in the store.
What I did with this add-on bundle was simply MAKE A PRODUCT AVAILABE to a group of users who already own a considerable number of my creations. That’s all.
The fact that only a smaller group of users might be interested in buying it was something I had already taken into account. In this particular case, increasing sales and overall success weren’t really my main concern. I simply saw it as a little reward for those who collect my characters. If a user owns enough of them to make buying the bundle worthwhile, great, they’ll have it available in the store. If, on the other hand, they don’t think it’s worth buying for just a few characters they use, that’s perfectly fine too. That’s how it was designed, and I accept it whatever the outcome.
For the record… looking at the numbers the bundle has generated much more interest than I expected. This confirms that I can go ahead and create a second pack in the future.
And let’s be honest: DS gives you the opportunities for stacking discounts every day like hardly anyone else does. Every month, you can often get the bundle for less than the price of a single character. So in situations like these, even the idea of it being “not worth it” no longer really applies, and I have to wonder… what are we even talking about?
I hope this perspective helps, because I don’t know how I could make myself any clearer than this ;)
Regards
your add-on pack only made me want to collect more of your content still took me a while but there was a really great deal on it plus the characters I didn't have yet but I had a lot of tokens used max was allowed plus coupon or code can't remember still cost me a bit but to me was worth it as a bundle it was probably cheaper than if you sold each add on seperately as there is a fair bit I think and many aren't just a basic retexture but completely new versions/characters kinda like your version of the old Daz Starter/Pro Bundles or even the newer ones both of which can be very expensive for less content and yeah still need to have your original characters to make use of the add-ons but same can be said for many of the Daz Bundles some of whichyou can accidently double up on same products that may appear in other bundles
yeah, I only own 4 of your products
I am definitely not one of your good customers
nothing wrong with your products, I do really like the 4 I do own
and do have one in my wishlist
I am not one of the DAZ Whales, I own a fair bit but 90% of it was bought 7 years ago before I retired from work

when I said it puts me off buying more, it's only because unuseable stuff sitting in my library stresses me
if I bought the bundle, I would have even more sitting there
as I said, those DAZ freebie textures stress me, its definitely a me problem
I didn't mean to be hurtful, I only want the Evil Pumpkin and it's addons but $78.86 full price $39.48 today is just too much for me
its worth it for those who use them a lot I agree but to be honest, I wouldn't
its the Evil Pumpkin I meant specifically I won't buy even though it's under $10
because it's a gateway to wanting that addon
I just want reitterate, its the marketing strategy not the products
Supermarkets successfully use this same strategy
buy this to collect poinrs to get this set
complete the set
my mother was addicted to it, had so much stuff, matching dinnersets, cooking utensils, casserole dishes
I only own 6 of the required products, but I found it well worth getting this add-on for those. In fact, I never would have gotten Otto (nothing wrong with him at all, just very stylized in a style I don't really use), but when this product came out I suddenly HAD to have him! I have used that octopus many many times now ^_^ I love the update for the babies, and the characters for Frogol are adorable! And my kid really likes the Plant without the teeth or gums, so that was great too.
I don't do horror images AT ALL (in fact, I have to click VERY quickly through the promos for the add-ons because some of the images make me queasy fr), but I got the pack on a great sale, and to me it was worth it. Would I have preferred to get the add-ons separately? Probably, not sure, but the fact that I only have to download the specific ones I use literally made the final decision for me. I don't have to look at thumbnails of the horror stuff in Studio, and I can hide them in DIM.
So far I have Lady Goo and Beverly for G9, and have Zuna, Master Swordsmith, and several others on my wishlist, and I would love to see add-ons for those (hopefully not just horror, though!). Beverly especially is really, really useful for mixing, so anything for her would be great ^_^
As for PAs, I echo RawArt, HM and JoeQuick and throw in ChevyBabe25, who does some really cool and quirky hair, and Jerry Jang, who does a wide variety of outfits, some everyday and some rather out there!
