What Do These Icons Mean?

kmwkmw Posts: 67

Hi.

Take a look at the attached.

What do these icons stand for? I've found that any product feature that has them didn't work in Studio 4, and now I find they don't work in Studio 6 either. At first I thought it was because they're older products. But the icons in the same product without the icons do.

Do they refer to some script that's outdated? Or is it something else?

Thanks in advance.

The icon means that cr2 file has an accompanied DSB script in the same folder. DSB script is used to trigger Power Loader as well ~~

However, DS 6 doesn't support DSB scripts anymore, so you have to delete the DSB script file before loading cr2 file in DS 6.

DS does support ,dsb, it can even create them. However, in the case of verey old ones using the original Daz script the conversion tool is no longer part of Qt, and so is not in DS either, but that will affect both ASCI, compressed, and encrypted files.

Powerloader is also affected by duplicate cr2 files

if its not working in 4, that's likely the reason

    Downloader? .dsb support? Qt? ASCI?

Guess I have to do some research, because I have no idea what any of that means?

    Thanks.

Powerloader is a V4, M4, etc script that brings up a dialogue for checking which morph packs you want loaded with the figure

Curious. Must admit I wasn't using Studio during Gen4. Was still a Poser guy. Was Loader a dl? (I'm assuming not. I looked for it in the store.)

Powerloader is also affected by duplicate cr2 files

This I get. For some reason, I've always had dup files in my library. Never bothered to ask why as long as they work. But maybe this is a good time: Should I get rid of all those dups and is there a simple process for it that doesn't entail hours of manual-ity? (Yeah, I made up a word.)

Your image shows an M4 character which means it has nothing to do with Powerloader, what you are looking at are DS format MAT presets in the same folder as the Poser MAT PZ2's.

Those presets are either .DS/.DSA/.DSB, .DS comes in 2 formats DS1 code and DS2 code, .DSA is DS3 and DS4.0 code. .DSB is the weird one, in DS1 they came as binary or encrypted binary (no DSE options for us back then), From DS2 they are binary, as we got DSE then which are encrypted binary.

.ds is DS 1/2, ASCII scripts for the new engine (DS3/4) are .dsa. .ds isn't, s far as I know, supported in DS6 because of the non-existent conversion tool.

since the original image was removed and RH refered to Powerloader

I had no idea what dsa was being refered to

hence my less than helpful post

its simply a DAZ studio native format like duf is for later versions

can be for many things including poses

as a Carrara and Poser user back in those days, I was forever opening the very crashy D|S3A and converting many to useable Poser and hence Carrara 7 compatible files

Carrara 8.5 at least reads duf files though not always with functionality

    still not dsa

  • For anybody interested in the various file formats used in/by Studio...

.dsa, dsb, dse, and the old .ds are script files (the extensions distinguish between plain text, binary compressed, and binary encrypted). Befoe the .dsf/.duf files in DS 4 (which are just data) presets were scripts that made modifications to settings (and .daz scene files were a closed, binary format that was not really user-editable as a file).

Not your fault Wendy, crosswind got a hold of the wrong end of the stick and led the rest of you astray.

Basically the image showed the INJ/REM and MAT files for an M4 character (the genital MAT is probably why the image was removed).

There aren't many items that have the Powerloader DSB's, V4.2's CR2, M4's CR2, K4's CR2 and the SubDragon's CR2 are the base figures that have them, some of the main characters like Aiko4 and Girl4 also have them, but very few people made content to work with it.

I don't understand what you're talking about in here ~~ OP asked what the icon means in the screenshot, esp. mentioned some of them didn't work in DS6. I don't know why that Mod removed the screenshot OP attached....but I attached the image again ~

The icon in the red circle means that cr2 file has a dedicated dsb script file in the same folder which can trigger Power Loader dialogue. I said those dsbs don't work in DS 6 anymore... if removing dsbs, G4 figures can be loaded, only there'll be no Power Loader triggered. Any problem with that ?

Pls DO NOT sow confusion in here !

Edit: @kmw Those thumbnails with no icons at all are just cr2 files but they can be figure files or material files, only loading the latter into the scene brings you nothing ~ Better check what they are firstly.

Besides, if OP meant another type of icon, shown in the attached SS, that is with a DUF file.

And OP can exactly explain what didn't work... figure couldn't be loaded or Power Loader dialogue couldn't be loaded. We may help to show how to make them work in DS 4 and DS 6.

Edit:  Actually I found the way of triggering Power Loader to work in DS 6 ~~ I cannot show how to do that but I'll send a ticket to Daz... they could've made it with the simple way... or at least should've done it though people may rarely render with these legacy assets in DS6 ~ So, if there's no further modification from Daz side to enable it,  then just let go...
