Can I rename a product?

I would like to start organizing my product library more in line with how I personally think. To do that, I would like to rename some products; for instance, instead of the product being under the vendor name in the props tag, I would like to rename it to what it is. What I am worried about is if I do rename products, am I going to cause myself problems down the road if a product "can't find" its texture file or something like that? I don't know if I am explaining myself well, but is there any reason why you shouldn't rename products or why it is not a good idea to do so?

You can rename products if you are using the content library rather than smart content. If you are using smart content and you rename the product, it might not find it what you shouldn't touch is the data and runtime folders.

Yes, I pretty much use the content library exclusively. I never got into the habit of using smart content.  So do not touch data folders, and do not touch runtime folders; got it.

    Thank you !!!

Not just Smart Content, any view that relies on the database. You can rename files in DS, and that will be reflected in the database, but  any updates will overwrite it. A safer option would be to leave the files where they are and use links in another content directory to order them as you wish, ignoring the content directory with the actual files, or to use categories.
