He has a similar expression to Lee, but I looked up pictures of baby Lee and don't see much resemblance. He certainly doesn't look much like current Lee.

Yes, that was a surprise – but a pleasant one. In terms of appearance, Bastian 9 does indeed bear a slight resemblance to Lee Pace, which is no bad thing. However, his facial expression – due to his slightly too thick eyebrows – reminds me more of Nicolas Cage.

Be that as it may: Bastian 9 is a likeable new addition, though he only becomes truly interesting with the Elven Shape Add On. The Elven Shape’s head is a bit too small and the body a bit too flabby and wide-hipped, but that’s easy to fix.

All three bundles are excellent and highly versatile. Names like Luthbel, Fjaa or Soto are simply synonymous with quality. I’ll start by picking up the Elven Outfit Bundle for Genesis 9, the Elven Shape add-on and Soto’s Velkarian Braids Hair for Genesis 9, and then I’ll get Bastian 9 on Saturday using the new Character Bundle coupon.

For me it is important that Bastian 9 is created by:
    https://www.daz3d.com/kayleyss
    and
    https://www.daz3d.com/yannek
These are my two favorite artists.

    Bastian?

    Nope, definitely not...

I see a softer Lee Pace for sure.
  • Bastian looks good, except for those eyebrows. But I already have some great G9 elf characters, by equally good artists, like ChanglingChick's https://www.daz3d.com/cc-talan-for-genesis-9.  I do like the hair a lot, but I wish the expressions had been replaced by something more useful than a makeup set. Nevertheless, I will probably grab the character bundle on the first since I'm dropping back to either Plus or Base (depending on what happens with OS/QG) when my Premier expires mid-August.

Okay. I'm going to have to see how I want to finagle this thing today, because I want absolutely everything Bastian-related. I'm a tad annoyed that I used my monthly coupons on Kristina last week. frown Worst case, though, I'll wait until Saturday and my August coupon drop. I can use all of the bundle items and everything was made by fantastic PAs, so I'm definitely getting it all.

I must offer a particularly hearty shoutout to Censored, though. Those elven weapons are exquisite! I must have them! heart

  • Wait! Censored did the weapons! Time to revise my shopping plan!

Some day I might buy Bastian. But I have no use for any of the elf stuff.

Cross-posted from the new releases thread, as I belatedly saw this thread and maybe more folk will see it here:

Can anyone who got https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-longfall-mystic-hair-for-genesis-9 let me know if it's possible to make those front drape-over-the-shoulder parts go behind the shoulders (so all the hair is down the back)?

    TIA.

I just had to Google Lee Pace and I still have no idea who he is, apart from being a gay actor and friend of Ian McKellan.

hard pass. i thought maybe I would buy the character as there is a need for men, but he's not anything too extraordinary. plus not liking his face. I don't do elfves so no need. Of course, as the old tired saying goes, your mileage may vary. I looked again. naw

He was Thranduil (the Elven king of Mirkwood, father to Legolas) in the Hobbit trilogy.

Also played Ronan the Accuser (the bad guy) in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, though you'd never know it with all the make-up and costume work.

I'm still none the wiser, I've not seen anything he's been in.

The first place I ever saw Lee Pace was in Wonder Falls as Aaron Tyler, the older brother character, and then as Ned The Pie Maker in Pushing Daisies. Lee Pace instantly came to mind when I saw Bastian 9.

Lee Pace played the Elf King in the Hobbit movies, so may want to compare pics from those. Gogger :: Love Ned, the whole series was hilarious. Very much a successor to Dead Like Me.

It's a nice bundle indeed. But my character bundle coupon doesn't seem to be working for Bastian, and it's still a bit expensive, considering I won't have any use for anything else except the character.

Also, I think their inspiration might have been Charlie Vickers. He plays Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

It's currently not in the bundles' selection:

As there is still tomorrow, if Bastian 9 bundle is what you want, you can wait to see if Daz will add it (I reported the bundle's absence a couple of hours ago).

What a fantastic offering. For once I love every item in both the character and the add-on bundle, not a single filler item between them. heart

Ah, haven't seen that cute little fellow in aaaages, thanks for reminding me of that cool movie!

As to the DAZ Bastian, he's not for me, his face looks weirdly small in his head, and his expression is kinda whiney (whiny?). But great for everyone who likes him!

Yup I see Vickers as well. (I Also see Pace too, plus the Scar)

I can't find a morph that will easily allow for the front locks to move to the back. You can lengthen/shorten them or spread them to the side but that is about it, same as the back hair. The hairline can be pulled back to show a balding effect. The side bangs can move towards the face and away and can be lengthened/shortened. The ponytail also has a left-right and up-down morph only. But it is dforce, strand-based and with Omni shaders. Sorry, I am not sure if using Mesh Grabber would help or not.

If I am not mistaken, it is very like what someone was asking for in Product Suggestions a bit ago.

I bought both character bundles and texture sets and the weapons. No clue how much they match up to the LOTR franchise but my renders will be for my own use.

Hate the eyebrows.  Character is okay but pretty generic.  Bundles =  MORE warmed over fantasy stuff of the type that I already have tons of that I've never even used, ie: more long-haired male hairstyles, yet another ridiculous bare chested male outfit, yet another batch of overly ornate weapons ...

Yeah, this is a core figure set that fills absolutely no niches that I don't already ave abundantly overfilled, so I'll be passing on it for now.

I'm usually one who won't turn down an interesting outfit, but, honestly, there are so many almost identical fantasy outfits in the store already that even an outfit by Luthbel isn't enough to make this bundle all that appealing.  Why can I get dozens of ridiculous male costumes that don't even have a full shirt for G9 while there's such a paucity of "everyday" male clothing options that don't feature shorts?

I've seen a few of the things he was in and still drew a total blank... but then again, I find a large number of the current crop of male American actors to be so cut from the same cloth that they don't leave much of a lasting impression.

Which is why there are so many Brits & Aussies.
