Saving new texture color on dress

I have a dress that I wanted to change the color of.  I want it to be a totally separate color with new UV texture maps (so I can import it to PS to create an opacity map as the PS/DS bridge isn't working for me).

I have taken the following steps:

  1. Sent the dress to Hexagon
  2. Changed the dress color in Hexagon using UV & Paint tab
  3. Exported as an obj
  4. Imported new obj into DS (new color is there)
  5. Saved the new obj dress as Wearable Preset (successfully) duf and icons created
  6. Saved the new dress obj as a UV Preset (successfully) dsf created

I can load the dress with the new color into DS no problem.

However, when I check under surfaces to see where the base color texture files are, it defaults to the orginial dress texture folder.  There are no new jpgs in this folder.

Does DS and Hexagon just mask the color on top of the original textures UV maps, even though I created a new obj?  If so, how do I create new texture maps (jpgs) so I can import into PS?  If not, where are the new texture maps begin saved?

Thanks

Are you actually changing the UV layout? If not all you need is to create and save new maps (images) then apply them through the Surfaces pane and save as a materials preset.

  • Hi Richard,

No, I'm not changing the layout.  I'm simply trying to create a black and white image so that I can use it to create opacity effects.  The dress has 3 surfaces and I'd like to make the top less opaque.  So I want to change the bottom of the dress to white and the top of the dress to black and save as a texture jpg.  When my Photoshop bridge was working a few years ago, I could easily do it there.  But the bridge isn't working (support ticket opened).  So I'm trying to do it manually in either DS or PS.  Since the artist put psychodelic stuff in the color texture jpg that is almost the same color as the dress, it's not easy to just pick the color in PS.

Bottom line, if I change the color of the surface in DS, how do I have it so that it is now a new color texture map that I can use for opacity?

If it's split intoSurfaces you could just lower the Cutout Opacity for the surfaces you wish to hide. Otherwise you need a UV template  (which you can create in DS 6, switch to UV View from the View/Camera picker list at top-right, then click the disc icon at top-right of that once iit is showing what you need - usually a matter of selecting the dress in the Surfaces pane's editor tab) to save an image. Once you have the image you can use it as a guide to show where you want black and white, then you load the image into the Cutout Opacity on the dress.
