Ludicrous Lag

Hi! I just got a new computer (see specs at bottom of post). I have no idea why, but--after a few minutes of doing anything in DAZ Studio 6--it becomes ridiculously laggy. Everything runs at, like, a tenth of the usual speed...the cursor, typing, everything. It doesn't slow down gradually, it's like someone flips a switch. When I look at Task Manager, my CPU usage is under 5%, my memory is at less than 30%, and my disk is 1%. Even when I close DAZ, my PC doesn't return to normal speed. The only way to fix it is to restart the entire computer. DAZ doesn't give any error message, my computer gives me no warnings, my PC doesn't make any weird sound, nothing.

I've tried everything--I uninstalled and reinstalled DAZ, uninstalled McAfee, ran a full Windows Defender scan (it was clean), held my hand over the fan vents (not too hot), I did a stress test and used HWiNFO64 to check the temp and fan RPM (everything is running at under 60C, and the fans are running at about 800 RPM), I ensured that the keyboard and mouse are running properly. I made sure my drivers are up to date. I downloaded and used WhySoSlow to analyze my PC; it said that it was having "kernel response" issues (or something along those lines). I did a clean install of Windows 11, but that didn't fix anything.

Can anyone tell me--is this a DAZ problem, or is my new computer just fried?

    No idea why DS6 is running so slowly, but I think you may struggle when it comes to rendering with only 32Gb RAM.

    Have you tried using DS4? Using a 40 series GPU, I can't see any benefit in using DS6.

    I could run DAZ 4 on my old PC (16 gigs of RAM). Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get my hands on a pre-6 version (for my new computer).

    That CPU has 24 cores/32 threads, so 5% CPU load would be a thread maxed out. DS dos access a lot of files in many cases, so I do wonder if your security software is being hyper-active.

     At least in my product library, i can still download the 4.24.04 installers.

    If you didn't have "delete after install" in DIM, the zip for the last version downloaded, 4.24.04, will still be available in your download folder.

    Thank you for the help, everybody. I seem to have figured it out. Garrett_3d was correct--my computer simply doesn't like DAZ 6. DAZ 4 works fine.

    From what I've seen, DS6 seems to be a lot more resource heavy than DS4, which means you need a much higher spec PC to cope with it. The price you pay for "improvements" I guess.
