Daz Studio and Linux

My current system:

  • Intel i7-4790
  • RX 580 8GB
  • 16GB RAM
  • 2TB SSD
  • 1TB HDD

I was previously running Windows 10 and using Daz Studio. I know my computer isn't high-end anymore, but it was good enough to create a couple of book covers for novels I published.

Fast forward to this year. Windows was becoming increasingly sluggish on my machine. Games were struggling, the whole system crawled, and since my PC isn't officially upgradeable to Windows 11, a friend convinced me to try Linux. I installed Linux on my SSD (wiping Windows in the process), and honestly I haven't looked back. My games run well again, the computer feels almost new, and this isn't meant to be a Linux advertisement—it's simply been my experience.

The downside is that, when I switched, I deleted all of my Daz Studio content because I assumed I was done with it.

Now I've started writing again, and I really miss having Daz Studio available for things like character references and book covers.

So I have a few questions:

  • Has anyone had good success running Daz Studio under Linux?
  • Is there a recommended approach (Wine, Bottles, Lutris, etc.)?
  • I noticed Daz Studio 6 has been released. Given my hardware, would Studio 6 be the better choice, or would I be better off using an older version like 4.x, which worked well for my needs?

I'm still fairly new to Linux, so any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks!
