Installing with DIM vs. DAZ Studio

I'm just getting back into DAZ Studio after a long absence during which I got a new computer and wiped all my content. So now it's time to start reinstalling stuff. Previously there were problems if you installed content with both DIM and from within DAZ Studio. Is this still the case? Should I only use one or the other?

I would like to install drom within D|S since I can see icons of the product and I don't want to just amss install everything I've purchased over the years.

  • It stil causes problems if you mix install methods, so you should pick one and stick with that.

If you a frequent and heavy user of DS, strongly suggest you install with DIM.

There're limitations in term of installing / manipulating content via Daz Connect, e.g.  it cannot install some product types like script products and plugin products;  you cannot save modified asset over the content installed by Daz Connect, etc. etc.

And yes, better not mix installation methods ~~

Please use DIM. You can retrieve thumbnails with DIM, too, but the interface is not nearly as graphical as the Daz Studio installation interface. As crosswind pointed out, there are limitations caused by installing within Daz Studio. Somethings, like plugins and Daz Studio itself cannot be installed or updated from within Daz Studio. The new Daz Studio 6 can ONLY be installed with DIM, I think. Any UltraScenery or UltraScatter, product simply will not work if you install it from inside Daz Studio. Some script products don't work if you install them from inside Daz Studio. Avoid all these headaches by exclusively using DIM.
