RTX 40xx series cards are out of production. When will Daz work with the RTX-50xx family?

omvendtomvendt Posts: 182

I just read that RTX 40xx cards are no longer being made. That has to be a big headache for Daz since it makes acquiring new customers hard.

Is there any info about when Daz will work with the RTX-50xx family of GPUs?

There is a version of DAZ Studio that works with the 50xx series cards. There are other people on the forum that know a lot more about it than I do. I don't have a 50xx so I haven't studied it.

You need to use Daz Studio 2026, still in beta test:

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/728111/daz-studio-6-beta-version-6-25-2026-14722-updated-may-28-2026/p1

Scripts and plugins are unlikely to work though, so if you're using a script or a plugin as part of your workflow and if the result of that script / plugin can be saved inside the scene file, you'll have to use Daz Studio 4.24 to set up the scene before rendering it using Daz Studio 2026.

DS2026 / DS6 (currently in beta) does work with them, and has been available for months.

DS4 will not get a version supporting 50xx cards, as the versions of Iray supporting them cannot be integrated with DS4 code base due to technical changes made by Nvidia. (Well, the very first version supporting them could technically have been integrated in DS4 but it had major bugs, so it wouldn't have been a good option. And later versions without those bugs are incompatible with DS4 code base)

DS4 works with RTX 5000 cards, you just can't render with iRay using the GPU.

Thank you all for taking the time to write.
I take away that DS doesn't work on RTX50xx GPUs (not having IRAY is unacceptable). Since you can't get RTX4090s anymore that means the number of Daz users will not be going up. I really hope this doesn't lead to a doom loop where vendors abandon Daz, then users stop adopting Daz,...

You take away incorrectly. Daz 4.xx will never work with 50xx series GPUs.

Daz2026 (currently in Beta) already works with 50xx series GPUs, but there are still issues that should caution someone to wait to upgrade. And given current pricing on 50xx series GPUs, waiting is already a good idea.

As noted already, you an set the scene up in DS 4 9and do rough renders to test the lighting  etc. with CPU) then save that and open it in DS 6 for erndering. MeshGrabber modifiers will have to be converted to morphs, and some other tools may require converting to morphs or baking to geometry, but that should rearely be an issue.

I will also add that UltraScenery 2 and Ultrascenery XT will not be able to transfer to DS6, as these rely on program plug-ins to generate the enviroments at runtime, but these aren't available for DS6 yet.

I had a nsty feeling the other day that that was the case, but didn't check (and hadn't tried on my own account).

I've resigned myself to believe UltraScenery 3 is coming. As well as LowPi Advanced Stuff 2. And Gescon 3. And...

As far as US is concerned, I asked about this sort of thing 5 years ago (long before US 2 was even released), and here was the response:

Of course the situation has changed and who knows now since it has been so many years.

The products mentioned are plug-ins, not scripts, and so require the new SDK. That isn't yet available in its final form, so it is not practical for non-Daz developers to work on updates beyond basic testing the waters.

I was merely pointing out that, as far as US goes, he seemed to indicate that the plan was to release an update when the new version of DS comes out - not a new version that needs to be purchased.

I wasn't trying to suggest anything about when any of this will happen. As I said, who knows since it has been so long.

Yes, my concern was that was when it was a script - which may (or may not) be easier to update than a full plug-in, and so easier to commit to doing free updates for.

...true, but if you have a big scene with multiple characters, plan on doing a few household tasks for a good part of the day.  The longest CPU  based Iray render I did took nearly 8 hours.

The longest render I ever did took just over 17 hours (I checked the logfile after it finished), but that was using 3DL with UE and an HDRI along with a 6 frame animation sequence to create a background motion blur effect.  Started it in the evening, let it run all night and, It finished in the early afternoon the next day. I had worries that I'd wake up the next morning to find a melted mass on the desk where the computer sat, but was relieved to see it was still chugging along, no BSOD and no smell of burnt electronics.

Well, this post didn't age well... I am glad DS6 is out, but will wait to see how other people report back on their experience before I install DS6.

For the record, installing DS6 doesn't affect your DS4 install, both can be used on the same system.

  • Yup, I've hopped back and forth between Daz4 and Daz6 to load a couple of scenes I'm working on, checking to see how it performed on both.  I did have to poke Daz6 at the start to get its GUI layout back to (similar to) the one I have set on Daz4, and for it to show my saved scenes.  I seem to be missing some added-on tabs I have in Daz4, though, such as a bookmarked-products dropdown menu I have installed onto Daz4, but I guess that one is needing to be updated to run on Daz6.

It's probably too soon to say, but I wonder how DS6 will be with computers running the new RTX Spark chip. It's an intel ARM processor with the graphics capability of an NVIDIA 5070 card, but the whole thing uses a unified block of RAM. Tech folks seem excited about it.
