Just a quick heads-up that the webboids.com site is closing down on June 22, 2026.

If you still want but haven't downloaded the free Webboids toon models for DAZ Studio or any of the donated freebies for them, they're available until then.

I would have liked to have seen more too, but there just wasn't a whole lot of interest. Perhaps if I'd been able to release the original Webboids with Genesis 3 and 8 male and female clones with Genesis 8-styled rigging they might have caught on, but with DAZ putting a halt to using the clones and rigging, and after commissioning 3D Universe to re-rig the figures and create a Toon Generations-1 clone, then buildng a website and contacting artists like Evil Innocence and Amy Aimei who let me convert and offer some of their items and with superstar PeTeGe who wrote scripts to allow the Webboids to use multi-generatons of Genesis poses and who custom-built clothing and props there just wasn't any demand, even for free.

Still, they're out in the wild now, and I've given anyone who wants to the ability to make and give away or even sell morphs, hair, clothing and props wthout restrictions; maybe something will show up at some point in the future.

Even without clones (and some of us can figure out how to homebrew our own), the biggest obstacle I ran into with the Webboids was nonstandard bone names, which meant that not only would other figures' poses not work at all, but not even the "PowerPose" default manipulator cooperates, and each joint had to be manipulated by hand.  Give us something with easy-to-work posing, and/or a PowerPose template for the irregular figures, and it'll be much more of a hit.

I hear ya! So much cool stuff showing up all the time! Stezza alone makes enough stuff to keep someone busy playing with just his stuff. laugh

Besides the clones, the original Webboids could use Genesis 8 male and female poses and animations, I assume the bone names with those would have solved most of your problems.

As well, PeTeGe wrote scripts that would allow you to use Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 poses.

Just to be clear, I'm not complaining about a lack of interest in the Webboids, I totally understand it. They're a toon style that most people won't have an intetest in, whether as full-on toons or as the semi-realistic variants. On top of that, hobbling them by not having the original's clones nor compatible rigging really limtied them. 3D Universe's clone helped a bit, especially for anyone who had all of 3D Universe's and 3djoji’s Toon Generation clothing packages (personal favourite: 3djoji’s Little Heroes).

I'm only shutting the site down because there's not enough interest to pay for another year for the site space nor enough interest to maintain it, though "maintaining" at this point just means popping in occasionally to clear all the span comments (the only kind that have ever been posted).

I'm very happy to have provided them to anyone who does want to use them, and I'm happy that they're out in the wild now.

I downloaded the webboids when you first started the site, although I have done very little with Daz since that time.  The webboids are still in my to "to install" folder.  In the renders, the webboids are all shown with hair.  Is the hair included in the package?  I don't see any hair listed under the tab on your website.  Thanks.

No, sorry, I used different hair props from my DAZ library for the preview images.

renaming the bones oneself and their nodes is not too hard then resaving as a new resource asset - figure

not tried it on Weboids but it works on other things

you have the bow tie rigging tool selected and tool setting open

renaming to the Generation 4 bones is best for all the old Aniblocks and Poser actually uses those bone nanes from Dork and Possette so DAZ doesn't have the monopoly on them

I rigged a chair with those names and aniblocks worked on it

Hi wsterdan,  I also downloaded the webboids when they first came out. I find them very nice and useful, and perhaps those who were interested have already downloaded them. In any case, I'm sorry you're closing the site, although I understand your reasons. Perhaps you could make them available by posting them on sites that host freebies, thus extending their online presence at no cost to you.

A good idea, one I looked at before and worth re-consideration, thanks.

Sad to hear that. I like them very much. For my part, there was not much spare time to work on freebies for the Webboids, but I will still create more freebies for them. I hope they will be still available for download after June 22.

Karth has a freebie for the webboids here: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/99650/greek-outfit-for-webboids-female
and Caty77 created a texture set https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/99014/punk-outfit-textures for my punk outfit for the Webboids https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/99637/punk-outfit-for-webboids which is also available at the Webboid website.

Thanks for pointing those out, I wasn't aware of them.

While I can't afford to keep them on their own site for another year, I might consider hosting them again on my sterdan.com site or on my deviantart page, just to keep them available.

    Hey there wsterdan,

Thanks for putting this out there. I also grabbed it but haven't gotten to using them yet - but love their style.

I'll enjoy the idea that they're available to me, and post any results if/when I use them.

And, more importantly, I look forward to tracking and enjoying your progress and projects - DAZ, AI, Blender, or ...

    cheers!

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated

Webboids.com now re-directs to my rarely-updated home site, Sterdan.com. When I have some sprare time in the next month or so I'll most likely make the Webboids avaiable there for the near future. I'll post in the forums if/when they're available again.

    Thanks again.

That is sad to hear that they were not given much time or opportunity for people to find them. I have noticed bit alarmingly how quickly people should be able to purchase content at store side of this page too. Some stuff seemed to be very shortlived. Times these days are rough and 3D content is a luxory. It is sad to see hours of work being treated like it was nothing.

I've been looking at it; there are different download limits for files just added as downloads, but I might use my Sta.sh storage to allow unlimited downloads. It's on my list of things to do but at the moment it's not at the top of my list.

I set up the website and paid for a full year of service but for the most part had zero feedback from anyone downloading them. I'm not sure paying for another year for the website would have made much of a difference.

I most likely will either upload them to Deviantart or to sterdan.com when free time permits.
