Viewport and CPU Utilization while using NVIDIA Iray

Just my opinion here, but it would be nice if the CPU utilization could be backed off from 100% on all cores when we are looking at the viewport using the NVIDIA Iray selection.

I fully realize that we all want the renders to complete as fast as they can. That said, we are trying to interact with DAZ Studio efficiently if we are adjusting surface settings.and want to see the results in real time.

Limit the number of CPU cores on the hardware page.

I suspect OP want 100% CPU cores when doing a full render and limited CPU cores when IRAY is selected in the viewport. Needing to go to the hardware page everytime one turns IRAY on or off in a viewport is their issue. I guess.

  • If you don't have a compatible Nvidia gpu, Maxwell(9xx) or newer, you're only option is to reduce the CPU load limit from all cores to at least one less than max under the Scheduling section of the Hardware tab of Render Settings.

If you have an Nvidia GPU, you need to disable CPU in both Photoreal devices and Interactie devices, Under the Hardware tab of the Render setting tab, other wise it'll use the cpu and gpu, and significantly impact render time as CPUs are no where near as fast as even low end old gpus.

In Iray, each GPU attached to the system being used by Iray uses 1c. With 1 GPU, one core will be maxed at 100% during render. 2gpus=2 cores, 3=3, etc.

I also recommend turning off Allow CPU fallback, as it will let you know when the scene exceeds GPU ram by rendering a blanck/black render, depending on if Draw Dome is enabled under the Editor tab of Render Settings.

    Correct, thank you.
