How to move Daz library to another drive?
in The Commons
Hi, new Daz purchases are going to my C drive. I didn't notice before. I have no more room so I need to move the files to the D-drive.
I searched in the Daz Forum for "move files" but got nothing relevant, except an old link:

It seems very cumbersome to follow this process. Could I trouble you experts to tell me if the proceduce outlined is the best way to go about the move? Please keep in mind I have over 1000 assets and that I don't want to lose the structure of my "Categories" library which I spent hours building.
Thanks for your help!

Assuming you are using DIM. Go into DIM Advanced Settings > Installation and click the '+' sign at the bottom then you can add a new path where you want the installations to be.
And then in Content Path Shortcut change it to the new path.
If you keep your downloads, also change it in the Downloads tab.
Then in Daz Studio Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager under Daz Studio and Poser formats change the old path to the new.
On a similar note, I bought a new desktop last summer and used DIM to install everything that I had in my Product Library. Unfortunately, roughly 1300 products have some or all files categorized as Lost and Found. I have a laptop that I’ve been using since 2019 that has all of my content in Daz Studio where I’ve recategorized all Lost and Found files as I installed content. What files(s) might I copy from my laptop to my desktop to clear as all of the Lost and Found categorizations on my desktop?
I also have two thousand or so other content items from Renderosity, Runtime DNA, and elsewhere that I have not yet installed on my desktop. If I connect the portable HDD which I use for Daz Studio content on my laptop, I can see them in Daz Studio’s Content Library on my desktop when I add the new path to the Content Directory Manager. I’d like to be able to have that content in Smart Content as well. Any advice?
Thanks, Felis. Will this move all existing files or just new additions?
That change will only move the path for new products.
You can then copy the files from the old directory to the new, and when verified delete the old.
If you are saving the downloads, you can get DIM to reinstall everything (except Daz Studio (unless you are also moving that). It will take longer than copying the files, but it will update the manifest files. The manifest files can also be moved to your new drive if you want (though it is less space they require). The manifest files is used by DIM to track where product (files) are installed, so if you just copy the files it will be best to update the manifest files with the new path, as DIM else will "think" that the files is installed in the original path. Batch update can be done with something like Notepad++.
