Clothing Hangers: is the autofit dialog box supposed to open?

I tried to load a hanger from the 'Hanger then clothes folder' and then I followed the three steps in it:
- Chose a hanger
- Load a Genesis 8 or 9 clothing
At step 2, the clothes are supposed to align themselves and in a way, they are doing it, but the autofit dialog box will appear each time.
Is it supposed to happen?

Autofit triggering like that is normal.
When they were developing G2 they had to add the "preferred base" system to DS, as without it every conforming item you fitted to it would trigger autofit.
The hangers are a "base figure" and the clothing you are using has a "preferred base" of G8/G9, so as they don't match DS has no choice other than start autofit.
if you use the g8 hanger and load the g8 clothing onto it, it should just click on. I've never had it trigger the autofit dialog. Ditto for g9 clothing on the g9 hanger.
Now if you use g8 clothing on the g9 hanger (or vice versa) it will trigger the conversion. Also, some of the hangers have wholly custom rigging (the pants hangers) or no rigging at all (the prop format hangers). I couldnt figure out a way to smash the clothing flat and get it into the pants hanger to drape, and the prop hangers are there for people who just want props for decor.
The hanger contains the rigging from g9/g8 respectively and it is aligned to the character location so if you use the right combination of clothing and hanger it should just do the thing. I'm told that smart content mixes it up a little sometimes - so you might want to go to regular content view and make sure you have grabbed the correct hanger(s) for your purpose. When a PA makes a thing, they don't have smart content (which relays on metadata made during the store packing process) so when in doubt look at the actual file folders which are what the creator was using while they built.

As long as the hanger is a Figure but with no proper metadata of Auto-Fit Base assigned, Auto-Fit always popps up when loading wearables on to it.
Either make the hangers as Props or assign correct Auto-Fit Base to the hangers of different Genesis versions when PAs save the Figure Assets ...
Or, simply ignore Auto-Fit dialogue will also do from users' perspective ~~
Loading from the Content Library doesn't fix any of the issues that I can see. Loading the hanger and clothing from the Content Library still brings up the Autofit dialog. Did you actually test that with the delivered product before suggesting that it would avoid the Autofit dialog?
The worst problem that I continue to see is that the clothing falls through the hanger. I have tried different hangers and different clothing. I have yet to find a combination that works. It's a great idea, but the execution totally fails for me.
In contrast to clothing that falls through hangers, some clothing has a dForce Modifier Weight Node that prevents part of the clothing from simulating. In that case, if the neckline area has dForce mapped out, the garment does not fall to the hanger at all, which is also a problem.
The attached screenshot is "Wood Hanger for G9 DForce Clothing" and the dress from "dForce 2-in-1 Ruffled Maxi Dress for Genesis 9". The hanger was loaded first and the dress was loaded onto the hanger. Then I simulated with default simulation settings. The dress fell through the hanger.
If I am doing something wrong, I will be very happy to receive instruction for how to do it correctly.
Edit: I added a third image to show that the dress and hanger were not intersecting at all before simulation.
I don't think you did anything wrong ~ I could reproduce the issue.
The culprit is that there're some settings of dynamic surfaces partially remained on the hanger for some reason... The hanger shouldn't have been set as a dForce item with dynamic surfaces anyway (or at most set as a dForce item with Static Surfaces... if really needed.)
If you Remove dForce Modifier... from the hanger, the issue will be gone.

Yes, now I see that the main part of that wooden hanger (the shoulder part) has Visible in Simulation set to Off in surface settings. No wonder everything falls through! How could this ever pass testing? (I ask that question of a lot of Daz products, actually.)
It makes no sense to me why these hangers are rigged with bones either. It is not necessary to fit any clothing to the hanger. As an experiment, I converted that wooden hanger to a prop and it worked properly. I did add a Static dForce modifier to that prop, so I could increase friction if necessary. Now that you have solved the mystery, I can just fix the existing hanger objects to turn simulation on for the main part of the hanger. Oh, but I would also have to fix the Scene IDs to avoid that Autofit issue. Making the hanger a simple prop avoided that Autofit issue, too. Thank you so much for figuring out the source of these problems.
Edit: It appears that the hanger material presets were not saved without simulation data, so they reset the wooden shoulder part to Visible in Simulation Off again. The troubles compound. I wonder, if I removed simulation data entirely from the hanger and resaved the asset, would the material preset be able to put it back? It's too late in the night for me to try that now.
Edit 2:There are simple props in the product, but the wooden hanger prop I looked at also has the Visible in Simulation error. However, it does avoid the Autofit dialog popup.
I don't have it but the reason it's rigged is the likely same reason I create clothing on hangers by draping stuff on a figure posed with it's arms by its side, export that as an obj then drape that obj shape on a hanger
I'm an OBJ noob. When you say "export that", you are only referring to the clothing, right? When it imports, it just a prop. Do you have to add a dynamic dForce modifier so it will "drape [...] on a hanger"?

yes, just a static prop but if you export at base resolution, it and the draped version could actually be added as a morph to morphloader but I don't really see the point when a prop suffices for clothing on a hanger

well, just pose the garment arms down, you don't actually need anything else in the scene as it's not being worn
pose it on the hanger you want for reference, you may need to move the shoulders etc around
export an obj or just under edit rigging figure, convert to a prop
you can then add Dforce and drape that, to not slip off the hanger maybe set some surfaces to 0 or add a weightpaining node

maybe actually has draping morphs based on the autofit template so doesn't need Dforce
hmm yeah. The dforce settings on clothing are an issue I ran into. I had to adjust some of the dforce weight maps on order to get the clothing to fully simulate. If that is not something you are comfortable with then exporting the clothing and then reimporting that obj will strip off all the rigging and simulation and everything. Clean slate approach.
I also ran into issues with clothing that wasnt dense enough to 'catch' on the hangers. My solution for that was to align it to the hanger, and then add a dab of dforce weightmap to keep those shoudler areas static and then drape
Yes - if you try to put a shirt or dress on the hanger meant for pants, it won't work as the top part is set to invisible in simulate in order for pants to pass through it and collapse.
I agree this can be a very fussy product, I did try my best to make sure there were options for rigged and nonrigged hangers so there were tools for many situations.
