I want to resolve "Duplicate Formula Errors"

Hi,

When I open a saved Daz file, I get "Duplicate Formula Errors."

I believe the cause is that I added a door open/close property at the top level of the hierarchy. If I remove this morph, the error does not occur.

The door open/close property itself belongs to a different group, but to make it easier for users (so they don’t have to search through the hierarchy), I collect open/close morphs for doors and windows at the top level.

I have previously added window and other door properties using the same method without any issues, but this time, adding a new door property causes this error.

Below are the exact steps I followed. Please let me know if I made any mistakes:

  1. Created a door that opens and closes using a hinge on the Y-axis.
  2. Created a new property using "Create New Property" with the following settings:
    • Path: General/Transforms
    • Type: Modifier
  3. Opened the Property Hierarchy tab, located the newly created property, and added the Y-axis rotation property (for opening/closing the door) to sub-components.

Up to this point, saving the file does NOT produce a Duplicate Formula Error.

  1. Opened the ERC Freeze options for the newly created property, checked the "Keyed" option, removed all properties except the door’s Y-axis rotation, and executed ERC Freeze.

After performing this step, the "Duplicate Formula Errors" occur.

Thank you in advance for your help.

You're linking the same properties twice in the same control - that is, with both the Property Hierarchy and with the ERC Freeze. This is what a Duplicate Formula error is. If you need to redo a link between properties (such as to change its value), you need to remove the previous link first.

You may check the tutorial in this thread (exactly from 9:45 to 11: 45 in the video) > How to make a controller property work with ERC > Keyed option: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/689376/tutorial-for-making-a-folding-door

  • This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much.

I was able to resolve the issue with this. Thanks again!
