[What would happen if DAZ showed us previews of upcoming releases?] As per the title...
Currently we only find out what the new releases are, either on the day of release from DAZ themselves, or from the commercial thread., this maked it impossible to plan ahead for things like saving tokens or general budgetting. If we were shown previews of releases with, say, five days notice, I think it would improve the buyer experience, and maybe improve sales. I know from personal experience there have been days where an item I really liked was released, but I didn't buy because I hadn't had opportunity to prepare for it and don't have the funds or enough tokens left to make the cost acceptable.
I know there have been issues in the past when a product was announced, followed by a long delay, so I'm not suggesting announcements weeks in advance, but I would expect there are a few days between a product being cleared for release in the store, and it actually being put in the store pages.
The only downsides I can see would be a certain amount of 'frothing' in the forum, and maybe a lesser temptation for impulse purchases. .

IIRC once upon a time that was a feature of the Platinum Club (DAZ+). I'm not sure why it was discontinued.
My guess would be the number of previews sent to competing sites that would then rush out to create sales based on the theme before our release.
I prefer the surprises. I agree w/ @changelingchick . Advance notice opens the door to counter-programming from competitors. Whether that would really impact sales, IDK; but it does give up the advantage of surprise.
Do you really think that DAZ knows exactly what's going to be in each sale that far in advance? Given how often the daily sales are filled with promotions that don't work properly at launch, links to the wrong product, and other signs of rushed proofing, the impression that I get is that the assembly of each sale is a rather rushed, last minute affair. Stating that something is coming in X days would therefore be fraught with the danger of something not being ready, moved up or back a day, or pulled at the last minute when someone realizes that there's a technical or IP issue.
Beyond that, from a store's perspective, there are a lot of other problems with advertising something in advance, first and foremost being that people would put off buying something now in order to save money for the advertised item. Second, there's a good chance that having advanced notice would give people time to mull things over and decide that, no, they really don't need that product as much as they initially thought they did. Finally, if you're dumping a bunch of previews out at the same time that you're dumping out a bunch of new products, you're splitting the consumers attention between things that they can buy now and things that they can buy in the future. Which puts money in DAZ's pocket now?
Ah, time to bring out an old joke: A man goes into a bank to deposit some money. He struggles with the chained pen to fill out his deposit slip. Furious, he goes up to the teller and complains: "We trust you with our life savivings and yet you chain down the pens!" The teller looks and him and says: "You trust us with your life savings because you know how trustworthy we are. We chain down the pens because we know how trustworthy you are."
The scary part is that, these days, the tellers and the customers are the same people.
This might be useful for sellers / developers so they can get a jump start on creating new content but for me as a buyer, it doesn't matter one way or the other to me,
Some bad feelings happened when a few previews were not followed with a timely release, and a couple failed entirely. "DAZ soon" became the term for a delayed release schedule. I'd guess they're just being more careful about making promises.
Hallelujah!

I think that all happened while forum members were leaking the previews to the forums of competitors causing some rescheduling and scuttling of projects. All in all, it was a case of "why we can't have nice things" so I don't see it coming back.
I think of the last, lamented update to Mesh Grabber that was grabbed by Daz and put behind a paywall, after all the users were going nuts for the update.
This was a question once proposed to the great philosopher Itchybummaclese... After great consideration he consulted the Seers of Forbidden Knowledge (not to be confused with The Sears in Fredonia, Kansas) who debated amongst themselves for many a day and apparently got sidetracked after ordering lunch and watching cartoons all day... eventually after many attempts to contact them again they issued a response that such knowledge was forbidden to mankind and to pursue such information could lead to a persistent rash and an inability to eat cheese...
Unfortunately history has shown this was their response to everything.
I hope this helps.
It probably doesn't though.
But that's the problem with forbidden knowledge...
At least you still get to eat cheese without worrying.
Unless you are lactose intolerant...
I was only thinking that it's hard being a cowboy in Rochdale, cos spurs don't fit right on me clogs, oh it's hard being a cowboy in Rochdale, and people laugh when I ride past on our Alsation dog.
The thing is, there is already an entire other forum section set up specifically for PAs to preview upcoming products and discuss current ones, should those PAs wish to do so and/or have the time. (Clearly, many do not, and the traffic there is usually focused on a handful of threads.). With that in mind, is there really any purpose in adding an even greater workload on the store people who already seem to be unable to put together a daily ad without numerous errors?
And worse yet, that when it finally came out after many months' delay, DAZ made it a Premier only feature. But that was an extreme case that started months before the originally planned release, and what's being poposed in the OP's post is something more like a preview a week or two in advance. In that vein, a better example would be some of the debacles where sets that were pulled from the store shortly after going on sale, cases where someone at DAZ presumably said "hey, isn't that from that movie" or "Isn't that a real building?" or some such only AFTER they went live in the store I can vividly remember a Miami beach street that did that, and then there was a great Firehouse by First Bastion that vanished, only to reappear much, much later at Renderosity. I'm sure a lot of folks remember those little ceramic figurine freebies that were pulled halfway into the morning during the holiday sale, and who else rembers the huge hype about the Hivewire store products becoming available in the store, only to get pulled back after some yet to be publicly explained reason?
