Blackwell (RTX 50-series) Compatibility: Iray preview and render NOT WORKING with certain shaders

Environment:

  • Hardware: NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell (48GB VRAM / Compute Capability 12.0)
  • Software: Daz Studio 6.25.2026.4408 (Public Build)
  • Driver: 591.59 (New Feature Branch)

Problem 1: Infinite "Preparing Scene" hang / Disappearing Hair

  • Symptoms: Iray preview hangs indefinitely on "Preparing Scene" and never starts, hair assets (specifically those using OmniHair or Strand-Based kernels) are definitely to cause. Elliminating hair from the scene makes the Iray preview work.
  • Cause: CUDA Error 209 (cudaErrorNoKernelImageForDevice). The Iray build in 6.25 lacks pre-compiled binaries for the Blackwell architecture. Specialized kernels (OmniHair/SBH) fail to JIT-compile or time out during the synchronization phase.

At this point, Daz Studio 6.25.2026.4408 is not usable with NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell since it will stop working on anythnig that has a shader other than PBR Skin or Iray Uber.
Has anuyone else experienced these issues? Are workarounds in development? I did raise a ticket with Daz support for this.
At this moment I am using a very expensive GPU as paperweight.

I am attaching some logs with the errors in case people are interested.

The iray thread recommends 576.80, have you tried rolling back ?

p.s. Also 591.59 is not a studio driver, thus available for games but not fit to rendering engines. You can try 591.74 or 581.57 instead.

I will try to roll back as you've suggested. The 591.59 is the Enterprise Driver (Leading Edge Driver) that was suggested by the Nvidia App.

576.80 - is a game ready driver too.
    591.74 - also a game ready driver
    581.57 - also a game ready driver
None of these 3 officially support my GPU

Sorry didn't realize you're using a quadro card. My search on nvidia tells R580 U7 (582.16) is the latest studio driver for your card. Or you can try R580 U2 (580.97) that's the closest to 576.80 for your card.

  • I've cracked it. For any users of the RTX PRO series of GPUs (some still call them Quadro) from Nvidia: PRO 4000 Blackwell, PRO 5000 Blackwell and PRO 6000 Blackwell, here are the steps to get them running in Daz Studio:

    Phase 1: Preparation (Software)

    • [ ] Download the Driver: Go to the NVIDIA website and download the RTX Enterprise Production Branch (R580) driver, version 582.16. This version is specifically certified for Blackwell workstation hardware.

    • [ ] Download DDU: Ensure you have the latest version of Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) on your desktop.

    • [ ] Disable Windows Updates: To prevent Windows from "helping" with a generic driver, temporarily disable your internet connection (unplug Ethernet or turn off Wi-Fi).

    Phase 2: Physical Hardware Swap

    • [ ] Power Down: Shut down the PC, flip the switch on the back of the Power Supply (PSU), and unplug the power cable.

    • [ ] Remove the 4090: Unplug the 16-pin power cable. Press the PCIe slot latch and remove the 4090.

    • [ ] Install the PRO 5000: Insert the RTX PRO 5000 into the primary PCIe 5.0 x16 slot until it clicks.

    • [ ] Power Connection: Plug the 16-pin power cable into the PRO 5000. Ensure the connector is completely flush with the card’s port (no gap).

      • Note: The PRO 5000 draws less power (300W) than the 4090 (450W), so your existing cable is perfect.

    • [ ] Reconnect: Plug the PC back in and flip the PSU switch.

Phase 3: The Driver Cleanse (Safe Mode)

    • [ ] Trigger Safe Mode: Press the PC power button. As soon as you see the motherboard logo, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. Repeat this 3 times. On the 4th attempt, let it boot into the Automatic Repair menu.

    • [ ] Navigate to Safe Mode: Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart. After it reboots, press 5 for "Safe Mode with Networking."

    • [ ] Run DDU: Once in the blocky-looking Safe Mode, open DDU. Select GPU and NVIDIA, then click Clean and restart.

    • [ ] Install the Driver: Back in normal Windows (still offline), run the 582.16 installer. Choose "Custom/Advanced" and check "Perform a clean installation."

Phase 4: Environment & Cache Purge

    • [ ] Check Variables: Press the Windows Key and type "Edit the system environment variables." Click Environment Variables. Ensure that OPTIX_FORCE_DEPRECATED_LAUNCHER and CUDA_CACHE_MAXSIZE are still deleted. (The new 582.16 driver and Iray 2025.0.3 do not need these).

    • [ ] Delete Daz Temp Folder: Navigate to %AppData%\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio6 Public Build\ and delete the entire temp folder. This clears out all 4090-specific shader binaries.

    • [ ] High DPI Reset: Right-click your Daz Studio shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > Change high DPI settings. Uncheck the "Override high DPI scaling" box (set it back to Application).

Phase 5: First Run & Validation

    • [ ] Launch Daz Studio 6.25: Open the application.

    • [ ] Check the Log: Go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File.

      • [ ] Confirm it says: NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell.

      • [ ] Confirm it says: NVIDIA 582.16.

    • [ ] Enable Hardware: Go to Render Settings > Advanced. Ensure the RTX PRO 5000 is checked under both "Hardware" and "Photoreal Devices."

    • [ ] Test Render: Open a scene and try an Iray Preview.

     Hi,

I have a question, in your opinion, could this work also for Daz Studio 4.24 (or at worst, 4.25, though I know that kills 3Delight) ?

Yes, I know I am asking only an opinion, but I don't think you can give me more than that, since you wrote you are using Daz 2025 beta.

No, Blackwell cards are not supported by the version of Iray in DS4. Only DS2026 can use them.
