Daz Non-commercial use only.

Quickmod Supra Badging Add-On | Daz 3D

Hello. I just wanted to point out that, for the first time for me, there are items that cannot be used for commercial purposes.
A slightly more concerning aspect is that the linked item did not have this feature when I added it to my wishlist.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there. Should I be worried about the items I’ve already purchased? Can these aspects change after purchase?

  • Some products derived from IPs have an Editorial License on their page, in place of the Interactive and 3d print licenses, so look for that. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/628906/editorial-license-items-list-listing-report-only-no-discussion#latest is thread with a complete list of them in the first post. Note that some models don't have the Editorial license but add-ons do. For example there's a pilot costume with the regular license and a textures set that is Editorial, since it makes the model look like it one in a famous space epic franchise that is nearly 50 years old.

AFAIK Daz isn't offering new products with that license - no matter how obvious  the inspiration - and there's many older products as well, so use your own judgment.

According to the editorial license thread, this item had the editorial license since the very beginning (released in March 2024, added to the thread in 2024), so it was always there. But you might have missed it because the editorial license notification used to look more plain, in black, similar to the 3d printing/interactive addons section, so it was easy to overlook. Daz added the distinct red only around mid-2025 (if I recall correctly, maybe later).

So in general, no, they can't change after purchase. From what I've seen in the past, it's more likely that those item will be pulled from the store (not affecting you if you already made the purchase).

    This is bad news.

Now I understand better after reading your answers. I haven't published anything commercially yet, but this aspect forces me to check the list provided in the first comment and make sure my work complies. It seems to me that the list gets updated over time though... it's not definitive.

It sounds like you may be using the "Daz Deals" browser extension.
The standard text on the Daz 3D store is simply: "This product is sold under an editorial license. Usage restrictions apply."
Daz Deals automatically appends the sentence "Non-commercial use only." to make the restriction more visible. This is a display feature of the add-on, not a change to the product's terms or page by Daz 3D itself.

This feature was added in Daz Deals v4.3.0.

The list was updated over time, because over time, new items with editorial license were released. It wasn't "oh, this old item now has editorial license." The list couldn't have been definitive at the time of the creation, because no one can see in the future to list all the future items. So people reported them as the new releases with editorial license appeared in the store.

With Daz (kind of) announcing that they won't release any more products with editorial license, as of now and until something changes, the list is pretty much definitive.

Aaaah. As always, Daz Deals seem to be picking up where Daz utterly fails.
