lowpi bone minions

Any chance we can get RiverArts and Totte&PhilW to work together on a Bone Minions for LowPi? Obviously adding a minion to G8 or G9 that accepts lowpi poses would be a bit silly. But a minion added to a LowPi that could somehow convert a G1/G2/G3/G8/G9 pose to a lowpi figure would be really cool.

And beyond that, imagine a lowpi gen script where you could tell it to use preset poses from "nomal" pose assets.

I can dream.

I'm dreaming with you. It might be hard, though.

    1. LowPi doesn't have the multiple spine bones of G9.
    2. The hip bones of G9 and LowPi are very different; G9 hip bone starts below the navel and points down to the crotch; LowPi hip bone starts at the crotch and points up.
    3. G9 has a shoulder bone; LowPi does not.
    4. G9 has 2 neck bones; LowPi has 1.
    5. G9 has fingers with three joints and metacarpal bones; LowPi fingers are like mittens. The toes of the two have similar differences.
    6. LowPi's weightmapping is unfortunately not symmetrical, which leads to trouble in the hips area and the forearm/hand area (left hand bends OK, right hand bends like rubber noodle).
    7. Bending LowPi shins into a kneeling pose causes the flesh of thigh and shin to poke through each other and bulge out of the knee area.

I'd like to see your Dream Team take on the challenge, though.

The beauty here is it's a lowpi figure. No one expects it to look good up close. If it looks adequate from afar, it's fine. If you can't get to look good from afar, you either need to hand tweak it or upgrade to a better figure, or move the figure further from the camera. :)

  • It's not that hard. Just have to make reasonable compromises as to the information that's lost. The same sort of thing happens when you convert a G8/9 pose to a Victoria 3/4 character. They have a single abdomen bone and a single chest bone. That means there is a combination and loss of information, and with the V3 buttock bone, some information from the G8/9 Pelvis bone has to be split between the V3 buttocks too. However, it works reasonably well if the programmer is sensible about how the pose information is interpreted. Regards, Richard

I don't own lowpi to test but I pretty sure it wouldn't be to hard to do externally with BVHacker, Blender, Unreal Engine or any other biped retargeting software

rather than import a BVH though as D|S BVH import is crap

import an FBX and save a pose from that

I don't use any of that software. So the learning curve would be high. Also, bone minions can be updated by loading a Daz asset without leaving Daz.
