Shading regions in Strand based hair

I am hoping someone here will know the answer to this.   I want to be able to have one section of a hair style I am creating for some fanart work I am creating to be a different colour to the bulk of the hair I am creating.    Is this possible, and if so how?

Thanks

Well, how are you making your strand based hair?

If you are making it with the Strand Based Hair editor, then it will default to using the surface UVs, so you can color different parts of the hair with a texture map.

Excuse my ignorance - but will that not modify the skin underneath the hair - how will that impact on the hair colour?

Yes I am using the buit in Stand-Base Hair Editor.

no because you are not changing the skin surface, you are applying a texture to the the hair surface...

how will that impact on the hair colour?

    however you want
