Line Render 9000 confusion

I confess I couldn't read the entire product description. I tend to avoid excessive wordiness.
Oh, a closer look tells me it works with 3Delight. 3Delight support was cancelled today.
I wonder why DAZ still sells it. The least they could do was to place a large warning in the product description.
I submitted a ticket for a refund.

You don't have to upgrade to the latest DS 4.24.x version in which the change is only 3DL plugin is disabled / discontinued, i.e. 3DL render engine can be always usable.
Alternatively, if you want to convert your renders to line art or B/W toon style or something similar, you also can make it with some image editors, e.g. GIMP / Affinity / Krita (all totally free..., with some good plugins if needed) or Ps, etc.
DAZ should probably post a disclaimer on all 3Delight products including this one
if you renamed the DAZ Studio folder in program files as I suggested multiple times in multiple threads, before updating DAZ Studio
or backed up all the zips outside of DIM before updating DAZ studio, you can use it
if not get a refund
if you ignore stuff and say it's too hard, well too bad
Well thanks for your response.
However I had no previous need to hold onto old versions of DAZ Studio.
And I don't know if I'd want to do so.
From what I've seen, some product descriptions could use a major rewrite.
Earlier today I looked at some toon animals. The product descriptions were merely entertaining poems.
What the heck?
I believe 3DL is not the only renderer that LR9000 uses/supports. There may be a couple of functions that require 3DL (scripted renderer outlines?) but I think one of the big wins in the tool was that you could have one scene be rendered and composited with up to four layers from different renders (lines from 3dl, shadows from iray, xxx from filament, octane etc.).
It has been a while, but I think the tool may have some good life left in it, even if you drop 3DL from your workflow.
I'm sure it's not a 'supported configuration', but I run all kinds of versions of DS (old/new) by simply copying the default installation folder to a nearby separate versioned folder before upgrading to the latest shiny versions (which overwrite the default folder version...). Again, not supported, but I'll always have 3DL if I need it for a project. They all seem to honor the DS setting files well enough, although the rare-but-possible multiple instance problem becomes an issue if you run older versions at the same time like we always used to.
cheers and happy new year Ron,

Thanks for your reply.
One of the first items in the directions is to select the 3Delight render. There isn't one any more.
I didn't realize DAZ Studio had been updated at the same time I installed Line Render 9000.
But I must say I just can't handle trying to navigate an out-dated version of DAZ Studio along with the current one.
I have a hard enough time remembering I want to play with DAZ Studio 2025 sometimes.
I can't handle buying stuff I cannot use so take a minute to ensure I can, renaming my DAZ Studio folder in program files before installating the new one took 10secs
too late now, maybe you can get a refund
The latest DS 4.24.0.4 is the last DS 4 version, and the only difference from the previous DS 4.24.0.3 is that 3DL has been removed, so unless you plan to upgrade to DS 2025, you can just as well keep using DS 4.24.0.3, then you'll also have 3DL support.
There are some bug fixes in 4.24.0.4 - see the change log https://docs.daz3d.com/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log
Did you rename the Daz Studio progam folder, update the shortcut and it still works? I'll have to try that.
I havent "upgraded" to the latest version but this could be a useful safety measure in case I accidentally select the wrong update in DIM. I've been fairly cautious about this. I backed up my DIM files and downloaded the stand alone installer from my library before 3DL was removed and I've backed up the Daz Studio progam directory so I should be OK.
yes, done this with several versions in the past
DAZ themselves actually gave me the idea when they linked me a ZIP for 4.11 a few years back and it had all the plugins
(one needed serials so ones I didn't own couldn't be registered)
I just change the folder to DAZ Studio 4,24 in this case amd create a shortcut for the exe, Windows will suggest putting it on the desktop itself as cannot be in Program files
I've used the free app FolderMove to move a few of my apps from "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ to "F:\PROGRAM FILES". FolderMove also creates a symbolic link after moving the app folder to it's new drive.
However I have not used it on the DAZ Studio app...

Technically true, but the very few bug fixes are probably of no use to the majority of users, particularly Windows OS users. How many people are actually trying to create Poser Companion Files these days? It seems to me that the easiest thing to do is just not install the updates to 4.x that are now in DIM, if you care about keeping 3Delight capability. However, I don't understand why it is still legal to use 4.24.0.3 3Delight if the license is expired. And yet, that seems to be the official recommendation. Is it a license the limits what Daz can distribute, but not what a user can continue to use?
Is Daz going to continue to advertise that every product in the store is compatible with the latest version of Daz Studio, even when 3Delight is completely gone from that latest version? Is there any use for a 3Delight shader product or lighting product in DS 4.24.0.4?
Yes, as I understand it. The license was perpetual for end-users, but Daz had to pay to keep distributing it.
I don't know about advertising, but of course pulling the 3Delight products would stop people who do have a back up of DS from adding them to their libraries if they wished.
I don't think Poser Companion files work in any wersion of Poser after 11 and I'm usingt Poser 13.
My appraoch is to not update the release version of Daz Studio 4.24 but to update the Beta version. I'll use the Beta version for Iray scenes. The release verion has been fine for 3Delight renders so any bugs it does have don't bother me.
I think it would be a good idea for Daz to put notices on the product descriptions for items that don't work in Iray but keep them in the store for anyone who still wants to buy them. Items with standard 3Delight shaders will work in Iray but one of the recent sales included a bundle of the pw shaders and these are 3Delight only.
