Reinstalling BIOS fixed crash-problem
I have a nice rig, but it had been crashing when rendering in a way that seemed random. I read that the i9 Intel CPU can cause such crashes so I set out to reinstal the BIOS. ASUS's website isn't terribly good but they do put you thru to a human quickly. I learned that the reason that I couldn't install the BIOS was that I have a pre-built machine so I had to go to the manufacturer. From there on, it was easy.
I am posting this because the PC no longer crashes, so I hope others will be saved grief.

if you reinstalled the BIOS, it's the same BIOS, if you upgraded the BIOS it's probably specific to your chipset, not the i9 since there are dozens of i9 variants. ASUS mobo may have specific features that an MSI mobo might not despite very similar components. There are some simple things you can try before you mess with BIOS firmware. Most of the time with things like Daz, Blender, 3D intensive stuff you should disable persistent overclocking, the CPU does not need to work itself up for minor things, it's straining the system and boost will kick in when it's needed anyway, and having it on definitely increases your chances of crashing. That's not i9 specific, that's for any CPU. BIOS can get tricky, note your settings, and sometimes a reset to defaults and setting it back up can work wonders.
StratDragon is right, I didn't reinstall, I updated the BIOS.
Thanks for the comments. Clearly, you know much more than I do. Fortunately for me, I can just rejoice that my PC hasn't crashed a single time since updating the BIOS.
Have a great weekend, y'all.
Six weeks later, still not a single crash
