Can A Script Be Added To The Top Toolbar For Easy Access?

I use primitive planes for most of my scene lighting and often end up using the 'Create Advanced Iray Node Properties' script to hide lights from rendered scenes. It takes about 4 or 5 clicks to find and display the script in the Categories Content Library tab, so it would be nice if the script could be added as a shortcut to the DS top toolbar for quick and easy access. Is this possible?

Right click on the script and choose "Create Custom Action", and it you can choose where to put it in the top toolbar.

  • Window>Workspace>Customise will let you drag custom actions (Custom group on the left) into the desired menus or toolbars on the right.

  • Thanks for the replies. I went for the Create Custom Action option mentioned above and it now shows as an option under Scripts in the top toolbar, which is much easier and quicker to navigate to yes

  • Ah, so you meant menu bar (the row of words that drop down a list of words for commands when you click) rather than toolbar (a row of buttons).

  • Richard, either way would have been fine, its just that your suggestion seemed a bit more complicated for me to complete, eg, not sure how to select the relevant script to display on the toolbar.

Thinking about it, I guess your suggestion is the better one as it would only involve 1 click to run the script from the toolbar, while the method I set up involves 2 clicks, not too onerous though ;-)

  • In the Customise dialogue, expand the Cusom group on the left, switch to the Toolbars tab on the right and expand the toolbar you want to add the button to, then drag the command from the left-hand column and drop it in the toolbar in the position you want. It still has to be made into a Custom Action first, using 3WC's steps, this is just an alternative/additional way to use the action.

Richard, thanks for the clarification. I managed to add the script to the top toolbar alongside the 'create a new primitive / create a new group' options, but there is no icon shown to represent it. It just shows as a blank square, then when the mouse is hovered over the empty square, it displays text that mentions the added advanved iray script, so it is there.

Does the script have a thumbnail when you have it in a content pane? That is what DS will use for the icon if nothing is provided directly.
