Could the DAZ Studio render engine become a separate process?

Just spit-balling, here.

Would it be possible to launch the DAZ Studio render process (either 3DLight or Iray, or even a 3rd-party render engine), as an independent, autonomous process, completely separate from the DAZ Studio application?

That is to say, the application could launch the render engine as a discrete, self-contained process, churning along in its own little memory space, while the DAZ Studio IDE remains unfettered, alloing the user to navigate the scene, explore the content library, building the next scene, and just generally plan the next iteration of their project?

Is the DAZ Studio architecture that modular?  Or could it be made to be?

  • Stand-alone versions of Iray and 3Delight already exist, DS can certainly launch Iray Server, and there is the Scripted renderer for 3Delight, but i doubt very much that the license Daz has (or had in the case of 3Delight, come the end of the year) would allow suplying a fully autonomous, stand-alone renderer that didn't have to go through the developer's own licensing system.

    Ah, licensing.

That's why I retired, and why I drink!

But thank you for the quick reply, and the avenues to explore.  (Iray Server. Hmm....)

  • There is a script to launch Daz as an Instance and have multiple Daz Studio(s) running at once.

One could be rendering and the other(s) could be doing whatever else. (assuming your rig is powerful enough)

it certainly is more efficient for animation if one could load and queue bespoke render files in a standalone renderer

its definately what the big studios do

but yeah licensing is always the catch

DAZ Studio being freemium ware is the issue

programs by companies such as Autodesk have such capabilities and I think even D|S can save files for renderers like Mental Ray

incidently Carrara has its own standalone render version

    I think Bryce does too

    Poser had PovRay

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but at least for iRay rendering, why would the iRay Server not address this requirement?
