Nothing that I know of. Only merchant resources.
Nothing specific. I was told it was "an important G8 resource not available in G9". I really don't know what Skin Builder does that is so important. I've been editing skin textures directly in image software to get skin effects for the most part. But if there's an easier solution, I'm willing to try one.
I dont remember the proceedure exactly, but you can create a skin in Skin Buider, save it, then apply one of those G8 to G9 clones and apply the created skin to that. I think thats how it went. I did do it once, but a few months ago . It worked. I just found this but did not watch it. Could be your answer.
Skin Builder 8 Skin to G9
...I find it indispensable particularly for types of skins that are somewhat uncommon (like vary fair and albino). It also saves money on having to buy characters just for the skis. I've worked with it since the Gen2 version .
It also includes various overlays like freckles and imperfections, lip colours eye colours and the such.
Yeah, video uses the "RSSY Material Suit": Do Skin Builder on G8 - apply via "Material Suit" to G9 - muck about with the eyes etc -- Does work, at least on vanilla characters, haven't tried on a character with Skinbuilder "skin": https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-genesis-8-and-81-female-material-suit-for-genesis-9 (male character suit can also be purchased)
There's also this product https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-9-genesis-3-8-and-81-female - I don't own it, so can't say if you can load Skinbuilder made "skins" to it. See this post on these forumns: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/606081/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-9-will-i-be-able-to-convert-textures for info
And there's J's tutorial (from 2022 before many g8-g9 plugins were available) which, from a skim read, seems extremely full on and requires a third party product (at least I think 3rd party): https://www.versluis.com/2022/11/converting-skin-textures-for-use-with-genesis-9/ <-- many "other forums" suggest something like this as the "best" method
You might find such posts by doing a search for "daz g8 to g9 uvs"
@jmucchiello reason I asked is I've just submitted a Genesis 8/9 product for testing that allows you to change skin color but still retain saturation and detail - if you add color to the base and translucency channels with the color picker, it tends to muddy the result and make skin darker than it should be. I've attached a promo which shows a comparison using Victoria 9's Vitiligo skin.
Obviously not as comprehensive as skin builder, but if you were looking for alien/fantasy skins for Genesis 9, my product could help once it's released. You can use it with any skin, so really versatile and will give you different results based on the skin chosen.
Your product sounds interesting, Silas. I'm not adverse to editing textures because they don't easily recolor. So anything that makes recoloring easier is welcome. Any chance this could be generalized to non-skin textures? Just curious.
