Upgrading graphics card suggestions

I've been using a GeForce RTX 3080 (12 GB) for a couple of years and it's been doing "okay".  But even after reducing the file sizes of some of my renders, my computer still swtiches over to the CPU because the GPU can't handle it.  So I'm looking at getting a more powerful grahics card.

Is going up to 16GB enough, will it make that much of a difference, or should I look at 20 GB (if I can find one I won't have to take a second mortgage out on)?

Thanks in advance for anyy and all suggestions.

  •  Please note: 5000 series RTX GPUs will only work with Daz Studio 2025 Alpha.
If you want the full functionallty of Daz Studio 4.xx, you will need a 40XX/30XX series GPU. Last time I looked these were very overpriced.
When it comes to Iray and GPU memory more is always better IMHO.
Other cheaper alternatives you might try, Scene Optimizer, rendering foreground and background separately, spot rendering and assembling the spot renders in post.

  • Or you can just switch to Blender and use the bridge to bring things over from Daz to Blender and render there. Oh you can also use fork of blender>>> blender for artists.

Thanks for the info! Good to know about the 5000 series, so we'll see about that.  I already use scene optimizer a lot but never tried rendering parts of my scene separately.  Something to think about.

Haven't used Blender a lot, so reluctant to render there... but maybe now's the time to learn.  Thanks!
