All About Baseball

I've been wanting to illustrate my novels, even if it is just for me.  I'm about to publish my next and it's about baseball.  I've been looking for a baseball uniform for years really.  I came across this one at Renderhub.  Not sure if posting the link is allowed:

https://www.renderhub.com/inn/softball-outfit-for-genesis-8-f-genesis-9

It is for geneiss 8 and 9 female.  it looks pretty good.  I'm wondering if possible or how hard it would be to fit to genesis 3 or genesis 8 MALE.  I could still use the uniform for the girl's softball team and if I could get it to fit males and make a few changes to the words then I could use it for the boy's team also.

Ideas?

I don't have the outfit, so I don't know how good or bad the result will be.

Do you have Genesis 8 Cross Figure Resource Kit?

Just a warning, if you're planning on using Genesis 8.1 figure, you'll need to copy and modify one of the file created by the Cross Figure Ressource Kit, otherwise despite having followed all the steps, it won't work and Daz Studio will show the autofit dialog box. @crosswind is explaining what do to in this message:

    Autofit is another possibility.

I don't know if the Cross Figure Kit give better result than autofit.

One of it's biggest advantage is that it's only a some files added, while with autofit, if you're planning on using the outfit a lot, it's really advised to save each piece of the outfit as a new clothing item, using File > Save As > Support Assets > Figure/Prop Assets, otherwise, the geometry of the autofited clothes will be saved inside your scene file making them bigger than necessary. With Cross Figure Ressource Kit, you're just loading the Genesis 8 Female version and the couple of files created by CFRK are taking care of allowing Daz Studio to load them on G8M, adjusting their shape to take into account the difference between G8F and G8M.

Both should give you a good starting point. You may have to fix problems in an external program like Blender / Hexagon / Zbrush if the shapes you're using a too different from the base shapes to be handled by a smoothing modifier.

Once you have a functionning G8M outfit, I think you can convert it manually to G3M using the Scene identification trick (I never did it with clothing made compatible with another gender with CFRK):

Various tutorials, by Sickleyied and Jay Versluis on how to use the Scene identification trick:

    https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Convert-Clothing-G3-to-G8-G8-to-G3-686682065

    https://www.versluis.com/2021/11/converting-clothing-from-3-to-8/

Videos versions (in the same order, so Sickleyield first, Jay Versluis second).

You may have some pokethroughs around the shoulders but usually, a smoothing modifier should be able to take care of them. Otherwise, well, an external modeller is your best friend.

Like with autofit, if you're planning on reusing them regurlarly, it's best to save each clothing item manually once their are 'converted' to G3M from G8M.

If the G3M characters you're using are not among the various Core figures released by Daz (like Michael 7 and so on), and if you don't need G3M HD Morph, an alternative to converting the clothes back to G3M is transfering your G3M shapes to G8M and simply use the various materials from G3M directly on G8M: G8M is compatible with G3M UV, so G3M materials will load automatically on G8M (all Core figures are using their own UV maps. As far as I remember, you can convert them manually or you need to buy this product: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male ). Transfering morphs can be done either by buying a character transfert products or yourself (I rarely do it, so no idea if there is an advantage to paid product compared to doing it yourself).

Autofit should do a decent job. Biggest issue is usually the breast area.

Here the shirt and pants from G8F is autofitted to G8M.

It looks like there are some small kinks.

Increase smoothing might make it better. One thing to try is to increase it to maybe 100, and if it gets better, update base geometry. Though, I would often take it into a modeller and smooth it there, as a modeller has better tools for such purpose.

Thanks.  Money is like non-existent so I'm seeing what I can learn lol.  It's been a long time, but I'm slowly getting back into the hang of stuff and some things I've never done.  so most of what you said went over my head, but I will take it piece by piece.  I know I can do it.  It's just a matter of learning and re-learning.  :)

Okay it took me all afternoon but I think it turned out pretty good.  I bought the uniform.  I converted it manually from Genesis 8 Female to Genesis 3 Female.  (I didn't have an auto-fit for it).  And then I auto-fitted it to Genesis 3 Male.  And I'll  have to tweak it for team colors, etc to fit the school, but overall I'm pretty pleased and learned something in the process.
