I need technical help after HDD crash

Ok, a bit long, but here goes:

  • a few weeks ago, as I was adding the final touches to a scene, my screen went black
  • my first thought was that my GPU had failed, so I turned off the PC by pressing and holding the power button
  • powering back up, the startup screen came up, thus, the GPU is fine
  • I tried every possible automatic repair from Windows - no dice
  • I reinstalled the SSD that came with my Acer PC and at least had a way to access the internet
  • I tried every possible fix recommended to repair the boot sector of my HDD, nothing worked.
  • to this day I'm still not sure if it was a mechanical failure or a computer virus that caused the crash, though several Virus scans on the old HDD showed no virus or malaware
  • I downloaded Widows 11 installation media to a USB flashdrive, so I could clean install Windows on a new drive
  • I backed up a disc image of my old HDD (I should have only backed up the files...)
  • I invested in an 8TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD, and did a HDD swap so I could perform the clean install
  • I restored the disc image thinking that it would restore my programs and files to the new drive...
  • It also restored the corrupt boot sector, so, back to square one, I performed another clean install on the new drive
  • now the Seagate Ironwolf Hard drive has a C: partition and a D: partition- D being the disc image with the corrupt boot sector

I reinstalled Daz Studio  to the new C drive, but here's the problem(s):

  • not knowing what I was doing initially, I had created a My files folder within my Content Library, in which Renderotica poses were installed, as well as some morphs and anatomical items; while other anatomical items were installed in the "appropriate" folders
  • many of my saved characters rely on said anatomical items
  • Using Gimp, I had moodified some UV maps for my OC Super heroes' suits, my saved suoperheroes rely on said maps

So I'm at a point where it would be easier for me to work from the D partition, however...the program is still looking for the assets on drive C!

Is there a step by step tutorial of how to change the C to D?

Thanks in advance!

What does it look like in Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager > Daz Studio Formats?

think I've got it figured out, now I need to remap the path to my Render Library...

You should probably also change Poser formats, if you are using old content.

For render path you can change it when you have done a render, and click on the 3 dots to the right of the listed path.

If you are using DIM, you also need to take care of the manifest path if that is changed.

And again if using DIM, if the installed file location has changed it should be updated in the manifest files as the actual location is stored in the files. It requires a change to all the files, but can be done with something like Notepad++.

So close yet still so far...I've managed to remap the content paths, and got my Comic Life working again, restored the link to my Daz render library.  Yet, I'm still getting the same error message, It's still looking for content in the C drive, in spite of having the paths reset to D...what am I missing?

The files it can't find is temporary files. You have used scene optimer and it will default save the files in the default location for Daz Studio.temporary files (e.g. LIE textures).

In that case you will probably have to reload the original material, and then run Scene Optimizer again.

You can, as I remember, set Scene Optimizer to save the files in the same place as the originals.

    Makes sense, I'll try that!
