DAZ content backing up issues

kenmokenmo Posts: 986

When backing up my DAZ content using FreeFile Sync to either my NAS Unraid (Linux) drive (ZFS file structure) any file named with .DS_STORE or who's file name begings with an underscore "_" fails and does not copy.

I also tried backing up to an external Seagate 14 TB (NFS file structure) attached via usb3 to my Windows 11 using "Beyond Compare 4"  and it also fails on the same files.

I also tried a regular copy using Windows 11 file manager and the same thing happens.

Are these files required if I was to do a restore to a new computer?

Anyone know how to backup these files?

Thanks kindly...

Kenmo

IIRC .DS_store files are hidden files used on Mac to store data about how to display the folders in Finder. They're not actually part of the content, and not having them in your backup won't be a problem.

Not sure what the files starting with an underscore are, but that sounds like temp files for me. Where did you find them?

The files are located in "PEOPLE\GENESIS 2 FEMALE\POSES\BWC - Lets Dance"

    Thanks kindly....

  • They're both Mac os related files.

If you're not on Mac os, don't worry about copying them, as you can't use them.

This is probably why they won't copy, as the OS and/or software doesn't recognize them.

Thanks kindly. Too bad the DAZ Installer would recognize these as Mac files and not install them onto a Windows PC. I have many of these files through out my ever expanding DAZ library.
