DAZ3D 4.24 - Genesis 9 Starter Essentials - "Update failed"
Hello all,
I have recently moved to a new computer with decent hardware and have decided to have a 2nd/backup installation of DAZ3D (free), doing a fresh installation of the most recent version 4.24.03.
At the same time, on the older computer I routinely used for modelling, I have (finally) updated my fairly old installation of DAZ3D from 4.15 to 4.24.03 (current version), doing a full de-installation (cleaning up my library in the process) and and a fresh re-installation of DAZ3D 4.24.03 as well. On this routinely use machine, everything is fine and works as intented (it runs Win11 24H2 home).
However, on the new machine (Win11 24H2 Pro), everything works fine - almost. I have an issue with the "Genesis 9 Starter Essentials Package" - I wonder if any of you experts might help or point me in the right direction.
Please see the attached image. When I "explore product" in DAZ3D studio for the Genesis 9 product, I do see a small UPDATE button. Installation via DIM is fine (nevertheless, the DIM logs show some missing files, which are present after all 3 parts are installed). But when I go to DAZ3D studio and press the Update button in Studio, I get a mesage in the lower left corner "Genesis 9 Starter Essentials: Update failed".
When I uninstall Genesis 9 within DAZ3D studio (via Content Library) and reinstall within Studio, I get an "Install failed" message (but the product works afterward). This only happens with Genesis 9; I can install / uninstall / update any other product in DAZ3D studio. I also did a complete de-installation and fresh installation into another path (was: c:\program files, now d:\programs; all %appdata% and %programdata% deleted), the error stay the same.
Note that his "Update failed" message does not affect the usability of the product - all files are present (same as other computer), I can use all 3D content of the product without errors.
Any ideas on how to get rid of this "Update" button? Thank you very much,

There is no point in installing with DIM and through DS - if DS is not seeing the DIM version then that means there is an issue with the path settings.
If you check the log file in DS (Help>Trouibleshooting>View Log File) it should tell you what failed - it does seem to be fail;ing to install quite a few files.
Thanks for your reply. Checking the log files (from Studio) did help. This happens after pressing the "update" button.

2025-10-01 22:36:09.361 [WARNING] :: \src\sdksource\cloud\dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(203): Install of unowned product Genesis 9 Starter Essentials 86958
That is strange because I do see the Starter package as an owned product in my account page - and it allow me to installed it as an owned product through DIM.
As I've mentioned - the package works fine after installing it through DIM - however, it shows the "update" button in Studio, but only on one computer.
Right-click on the product icon that shows the Update icon and select Uninstall, that will leave you working solely with the DIM files. If you don't install through DS it isn't necessary to have it online anyway - if you are a Premier member you will need to log-in occasionally to keep the tools active, and if you use the premier exclusive shapes you will need to install those through DS (but you can use them after that while offline).
Thank you very much. This particular hint solved the issue for me.
In more detail - re-installing in DIM was not sufficient, but when it "uninstalled" in Studio and went to DIM, it still showed G9 Starter Essentials as installed, so I "re-imported Metadata" in DIM. After that, the "update" button in Studio was gone, problem solved.
Connect/Daz Studio installs take prcedence over DIM (or manual) - even if the Connect files are missing or unreadable the DIM ones will not be used instead. That is why it is necessary to actually uninstal the Connect version in cases like this.
