Do Women Still Wear Eyeshadow?

FauvistFauvist Posts: 2,219

How common is it for women to wear eyeshadow nowadays in North America?  There's a lot of female characters where eye shadow seems to be a big deal.  I remember eyeshadow was noticeable on women in the 1960s, and then during the disco era 1970s.
Thanks!

Common. I'm a woman and don't do makeup, and I'm always a little surprised and delighted to run into someone else who doesn't.

How one wears it is up to personal aesthetic, of course.

Yeah. I agree with SilverGirl. It's pretty common, in my observation. I wear it when I wear makeup, and my teenage daughter wears it almost every day, as do most of her friends.

they definitely wear it but it doesn't stick out as much as it did in the 80s with stark colours like bright blue, rather it's used more for contouring

also black eyeliner seems to be far more pronounced now than the shadow

I too cannot wear makeup being highly allergic to it,  since 30, I wish I could but after over 30 years of not being able to, no longer care

I'm not a woman... (wait...)...(I just want to double check)...(nope, I'm not)... but I have seen women... and from what I can tell they still do... wear eyeshadow... or was that eyeliner... they definitely have eyelashes... most of them... I lost my eyebrows and eyelashes once because of an unfortunate misunderstanding with how propane gas is supposed to be used.
Too many rules with explodie stuff.
But anyway back to the eyeball stuff... yes, most women have eyeballs... in fact it's a popular pastime to decorate the real estate surrounding the eyeballs... such as the eyelids, the eyeball lashes and those furry mustache things humans have above the eyeball sockets... I believe they are called brow-mustaches or something.

I hope this was helpful... it probably wasn't because I'm pretty unhelpful most of the time.

    Anyway... good luck!

  • Yes, a lot of women wear eyeshadow. Check out how many beauty influencers there are on YouTube. And they all know just how to put on your eyeshadow so you don't look old. Whether or not you are old.

I don't generally wear makeup or jewelry but I have occasionally put things on or painted myself with stuff while having no idea what it is.

If it required turps to remove it it probably wasn't eyeshadow.

US's Survivor just started this Wednesday. One of the women (at least one) went to the island wearing a light colored (maybe metalic) eyeshadow. Can't wait as the weeks go by and the eye shadow cracks and fade/falls off.

I am in Wendy's boat. For me it was in my late 30s and my autoimmune disease kicked in. I tried every product I could, but ichy eyes, yellow gooy eyes is a turn off. I just read an article from a famous model or actress who is promoting aging without makeup and dying ones' hair. Apparently there has been an uptick in younger women since Covid. Facial care is still there, but within reason. Finances are now an issue as well.

Thank you for helping me every time you make me laugh. It means a lot.

I'm male with permanent eye shadows looking like a panda bear.

If 25 years of constant night shifts has anything to do with it, I don't know.

    I guess not. ;)

Well, maybe you should get used to sleep during the day?

I think (!) that dark eyeshadow is still "a thing" in a certain group of people, male and female - namely gothics. And it probably differs from a country to another.
