Lost poser directories...

Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

So in moving directories, I... did something.

In Content Library, my Poser Formats directories are empty. Except when I go look in Runtime, at least some of the files are still there. EEP?

REALLY hoping I didn't lose all that random content I had gathered up.

Run a content scan inside DS, it will find all the content on the drive and offer to add it. Chances are you moved your runtime dir so DS can't see it any more, but if you know where it is you can re-add it manually. Otherwise the scan will see it.

May I have you double check in Daz Studio > Preferences > Content Library > Content Library Manager > Poser Formats that Poser Formats are pointed to the folders that you moved; it is the only way the content library knows where your stuff is.

I have a somewhat different problem with my Poser format folders. They are mapped and displayed correctly in DAZ Studio but I can't search them. This is content bought and installed before I started using DIM as well as quite a lot from other stores. I'm guessing it is a metadata thing but I have no idea how all that works. It would be nice to be able to search all of my content.

I've never been able to search Poser stuff. Very f'in frustrating.

What I usually do is have to go to the root directory with my file explorer and do a search there. Which is dumb.

This did the trick. Thank Athe!

Marble, yes, if they have no metadata, then you can't search the third party products.  You can add metadata if you like; just search metadata in the forum and you will find details on how to do it; once you learn how, it becoms second nature.

Do I remember right, if you add tags to third party products it becomes searchable? That's my inclination.

The regular metadata approach never seems to work right and has too many hoops for me.

(tests) Yep. I need to sit down and add tags to all my poser stuff. ;)

    Passing on some info

I believe the default Search Type in Content Library is Database (I'm not in a position to verify at the moment). If the file you are searching for doesn't have metadata, and you haven't navigated to the directory that the file is in so that it gets added to the database (since the database was last reset), searching for the file using that option is not going to find it. Instead, change the Search Type to File so that the search happens against the file system.

I find Poser content listed in the Products area besides the usual Poser tab. My problem is sometimes the icons for Poser and DAZ content don't render until I mouse over the area of the icon. leaving me thinking my content is gone.

Thanks Chohole - I used to know that. Getting old :(

Yes - that mouseover thing just happened to me when I did the search using Chohole's tip. I'm also seeing a lot of icons with an exclamation mark (bang, as I believe the Americans say). This even though the content does exist (whether DIM installed or otherwise).

Not actually my tip,  I was passing on some info from the Whizz himself, (Rob.)

And he sends you some more information

More information on this... The adding of a file to the database upon navigation to a folder was the way it worked prior to 4.9. In 4.9 at least one piece of metadata for the file must be explicitly added for the record to be created in the database. So something like navigating to a folder, selecting the files, right clicking on one of them and assigning them to a category (i.e., Unassigned) should be enough; you should alternatively be able to assign them to a group (i.e., Group As > New) and that should be enough to add them to the database, but I'd need to verify that (and I am again not in a position to do so at the moment). At that point either Search Type should be able to find those files. The Files Search Type doesn't need metadata.
