Blur color when upgrading bit depth

When I make, say, a small image larger, I can somewhat help the pixelation by applying Gaussian Blur. Not ideal, but it can help minimize jaggies.

Is there something similar when going from one color depth to another, like 8 bit to 32 bit color? I would imagine the tone map is basically pixelated. In a sense.

the blur can interpolate colors between colors

an increase in bit depth does not add colors that were not there before, it opens the potential to ad them.
