Paths & Naming Conventions

Technical help or questions by new users? Sorry, I don't know. Please move it to where it is better, please.

I've seen that there are - of course - some rules/conventions/regulations/best practices for 1) the use of folders within the DAZ and 2) naming. For example: You should use the creator's name somewhere. Or: Textures are stored in the folder./runtime/textures... I was wondering: can I find a list of all these rules/best practices somewhere?

Current question: If you make lamps with IES profiles, where would you store the light profiles? I found a folder for light presets, but I suspect that means something else. Any suggestions?

Addendum: 3 questions in 3 days? Yes, but that's the last one at the moment :)

  • Light Presets are the user-facing files, the oens that appear in the content panes. IES profiles are not user-facing, they are like textures and the various asset .dsf files that get called up by the user facing files (which would be Light Presets in many cases). Personally I keep my files separate from the third-prty content (store products and freebies) as it makes back-up easier; I would probably put IES profiles in the Runtime/Textures folder  somwehere if I was packing them up like a product.

  • Understand. Yes, that sounds quite fitting. Or I can create a folder parallel to the textures. There are no conventions for this yet?

I had tried (unoriginally) ".ies profile" and ".ies light" in the search, but that didn't lead to anything. Or: It led to such miraculously assembled products that I doubted the search rather than whether someone used these light profiles :)

So, new path for testing established (and integrated). Thank you for this tip.
