This is the full 7 minute video of our entry in the Houston 48 Hour Film Contest (I previously linked to a 48 second trailer). The screenings were today at a theater, it got a nice reception. The awards are later in October. Done in Carrara with some Particle Illusion FX as plugins in Vegas. The audio is done with Vegas text to Speech.

Thanks for the comments. Of the 30 or so entries that made the deadline (and thus are eligible for judges awards - late entries are eligible only for audience awards), 28 are live action. And I'm pretty sure none of the judges are animators, so I doubt we two animators have a high chance of winning (the other one is very good, I voted for it). But that's OK, its fun to see your video on the big screen and hear the crowd reaction. A few years back my animation had a sad scene, and a young woman near me went "Awww." I smiled. A tiny version of Spielberg's reaction at the premiere of "Jaws", being shocked when an audience member went to the restroom and threw up after a gory scene. But then the person came out and went back in to the theater, so Spielberg figured he had a hit.
Terrific, love the water and sailing boat ;) good luck.
Thanks. My wife & I have a long history with sailing, starting with a two man racing sailboat, the planing hull 16' Windmill weighing 200 lb. Then a Sunfish, a pair of Windsurfers and finally an Ericson 27 ft cruising sailboat somewhat similar to the sailboat at the end of the video. All were a lot of fun. A lady from Kansas City on a flight learned I was from Houston and when I said something about sailing, she asked, "Where can you sail in Houston?" I said, "Clear Lake, Galveston Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, ... " She said, "Oh. Right."
Ha ha, well she had a lesson in geography ;) the water is a good place to be , especially when you are on top of it. Guy had both legs bitten off in the surf the other day in Sydney,
Yes, the water can be dangerous. Beach life guards and area EMT's used to keep meat tenderizer on hand to treat Man of War stings, but I think that's been disproved. On a more serious note, a racing sailor at our sailing club on Galveston Bay (capsizes are common with small racing sailboats like Lasers) got a vibrio infection in some kind of scratch or cut and ended up having a leg amputated at the hip.
