Buzzed Hair - Slow Viewport

marblemarble Posts: 7,500

As the title suggests, I've just bought the Hellboy product: Buzzed Hair and I am very pleased with the way it looks on a character. However, I can hardly get anything done in the viewport because the hair seems to hog the performance. Are there any tricks to using this hair and still being able to pose figures, etc? I've tried hiding it with the little eye but that doesn't help.

Oops - just noticed my Subdivision is set to 3 for the figure. My bad. The hair does slow things somewhat but most of the lag was caused by the subdivision setting, of course.

    A bad habit!

I caught it from Americans - I'm English.

  • Lol! that's even worse if you're English, I'm getting too old to keep up with it !

I load the hair onto the figure but I just click the "eye" to hide it until I'm ready to render. Even on my ancient laptop, that helps a lot! :)

Yes, I thought it would help but making the hair invisible doesn't seem to make the viewport more responsive. I does help with other "hairy" props but not this hair, it seems. It is not as bad as setting the Subdivision higher (3) but it still slows posing and camera movement down a fair bit.

Switch off all Smoothing Modifiers till time to render.
