Help needed - D|S freezing - probably geoshells (?)

I'm trying to render a character, but every time I try, D|S freezes.

By process of elimination, I'm fairly sure it's the geoshells on the character - he has a few for effects such as cracks, shadows under the eyes, et cetera.

I could use some help - what should I look at? At first glance, they don't seem to be do anything exoctic, or have missing image files, or what have you. And, of note, I've rendered the character just fine a few D|S versions back. What's more, putting the viewport in iRay mode shows everything just fine.

What are the subD of the character?

And do all the geoshells has different offsets?

What happens if you hide half of the geoshells, and then try the other half?

Usually a geo-shell per se doesn't freezes DS ...but some problematic texture maps may do ~~

You may check if there any tiff format texture maps on the surfaces of geo-shell in Surfaces pane.

BTW, better name the geo-shell product that you're using.

2, renders at 5, via the Catmark algorithm and smoothed normals.

They do. There's five of them; 0.01 through 0.05, e.g., 0.01 difference between each.

What happens if you hide half of the geoshells, and then try the other half?

I'll test it and report back winksmiley

Render SubD Level is set as 5 ?  Then there'll be 20 Mil+ polygons fed in rendering ~~

    I'll check for .Tiff's smiley

As far as the product goes, it's a mix of SF Ball Jointed Dolls for Genesis 8 and 8.1 and SY Cracked Creepy Dolls Genesis 8 and 8.1.

But what weirds me out the most is that this exact character rendered fine before.

    Guess we cross-posted.

Never thought to check it out before making this thread, but putting it back to the default 3 made the render happen smiley Guess last time I rendered this character, it was in a less complex scene or something cool

Right ! I saw other folks also reported the same issue as you have, i.e. Render SubD Level suddenly jumped to 5 for some reason ~~ Yeah, changing it back to 3 will just do. yes
