shadow and reflection on ground/objects with invisible character
Hi,
I need my renderings in separate layers.
Layer 1 is the figure on a transparent background and the second layer is the background with shadows and reflections of the figures, but the figure is invisible in the second scene.
That way I can rework each layer in PS
This is a very important function and it's no problem in 3dsMax.
I have been working on this problem again in DAZ, but still haven't found a solution.
Various AI's offer me various solutions, but most of them don't work in DAZ.
Sometimes it works if you set figures to ‘visible in render off’... but mostly not.
Is there a reliable solution to this problem?
Thanx
T.

If I understan right you want shadows from a character, that not must be rendered.
By default it is not possible in Iray, basically because what you want is not physical possible.
I would render the character, visible, without the background, and then in an image editor mask out/delete the character itself. Then you have a layer wuth shadows you can use on top of a background.
You might be able to do domething with canvases, but I have only used those limited, so I don't know if that is a way.
Hi Felis,
jepp..Thats what I do...but thats ist not satisying:-)
It's one klick in 3ds Max and other 3d programs but it seems not possible in DAZ.
Well, technically it is a limitation to Iray, which is developed by NVidia.
I don't know if it'll done exactly what you want, but you can try to use the 'Create Advanced Iray Node Properties' to add 'Iray Visible to Primary Rays', then set it to Off on anything you don't want to see: they should disappear but their shadows and reflection will still be visible.
Two examples.
1. Iray Visible to Primary Rays is set to Off on G3F but her reflection and shadows are still rendered:
2. This time, Iray Visible to Primary Rays is set to On on G3F but Off on the Ghost Bride Skirt. The skirt is casting shadows on G3F's legs, on the ground and its reflection is visible in the mirror:
Hi Elor..
I have a question...I don't have the point: "Iray Visible to Primary Rays is set to Off" in my menue.
I did some research and I got the info that this function is in a new alpha version....is this correct?
Are u using an alpha version instead a official bublic version?
(I use 4.2.4.)

It's something you have to add through a script provided by Daz. The
In your Content Library, go to the Scripts/Utilities folder and you should see a 'Create Advanced Iray Node Properties' script (without any thumbnail). Launch it with the items you want to make invisible and check 'Iray Visible to Primary Rays' (I think you'll have to check it for all items selected).
Another way to find it:
(I don't think you need Ghost Light factor to make object invisible in render but I don't remember what it does).
YESSSSSSSS...it took me some effort, but that was FINALLY the right and useful tip!!!!
There is a 4.24 Stable (General Release) and a 4.24 Public Build. The script is not included in the stable version.
So, after a discussion with ChatGPT, I found out that I had to install the Public Build alongside the Stable version...
And then... FINALLY... I also have the scripts in my stable version.
I still need to experiment with it a bit... but it basically works.
I still need to find out whether I can make a complete figure with clothing invisible as one object or whether I have to select each object individually.
When I select the character with clothing, etc., it only makes the figure itself invisible, but not the clothing. But... details :-)
Thanks a lot...you made my day!!!!
The problem of rendering shadows without figures has been bothering me for a long time
Create Advanced Iray Node Properties script is not binded with any DS application version... it just belongs to the product: Default Resources for DAZ Studio
