    This product I assume https://www.daz3d.com/sc-dforce-pigtails-for-genesis-9

If you hadn't cut off your image where you did, you should see a 'Materials' kategori. If you go into that you should find a lot of colors.

And a practical thing. For strand based hair (dForce hair) the color you see in viewport is independent from the color you get when you render.

woops, i was wrong. here's screencap of a finished render, no blonde..

and the colofs under Materials that show up under Smart Content, are: hair colors: twisted, ineffective; and base color, which looks llike it mightwork, but doesn't?

    any other thoughts?

It says Materiel and not H-Materiel. What have you selected in the scene tab?

And if you go to the log (Help > Troubleshooting > View Log), what does it then say when you apply a color?

well. i made an attempt. got these screencaps of what i found under hair color and selected, and the final jpg.

log file had no troubleshooting so i tried error and it reported 12 and i don't know how to handle that?

(you are a whiz at this stuff)

Those are too early - try applying the preset, then look at the end of the log, which is where any relevant messages will be - you should see it start to load the preset, we want everything from that point on.

richard, i'd forgotten so much. i lookedallover for the preset, finally found it and then got the right hair color! see below.

now i'm so excited, do i still need to record what the log says?

lighting still not what i want; i think i had intensity at 200% and then i went to different lighting souce.

sigh. at least i finally got blonde.

thanks for the tutoring; is there a tutorial that will give me a solid basis?

If it's working then no, the log enttries aren't needed (though it may be handy to know where theya re for future reference).

Are you using the Intensity slider on the light? In Iray I refer to leave that at 100% and, in Photometric mode on the light, adjust its actual light properties.

ah, thanks, i did find Intensity and it turned out i have a way-too-many distant lights in that scene. see screencap. i try to delete some, but nothing i know how to do (i.d. right click) does the job? How, then???

If you want to delete a light find it in the scene tab, right click and select delete.

What kind of lightning are you trying to achieve?

less glary, less brightness, too much is this shot. I'll try what you suggest: scene.
