Carrara 8.5 Pro: Multiple Problems

Hi,

I haven't used Carrara in a year or two, but it's always worked perfectly.
But now it:

  • Can't add "Point At" modifier to cameras
  • Can only pick "Linear" in tweener vs Bezier (though can adjust Ease-in/out graph)
  • In Render Output, can't choose jpeg seqence, just avi
  • Can't choose frame rate
  • Can't choose which camera for animation

I used the latest Daz Install Manager to uninstall & re-install Carrara (online), but still have the same problems.
If worst comes to worst, I have Carrara installed on other older computers, but would like to
use on this one again. ASUS i7 laptop, Win 11.

Does anyone know what might be going on? Other than Windows updates, I haven't changed anything,
and Carrara 8.5 Pro worked perfectly in the past.

Thanks!

Not sure if it's the computer or Carrara, but decided to just workaround it on a different computer.
    Go with the flow. ;)

could it be a permissions issue with the drive?

I replaced a drive recently copying everything over to it and renaming it with the same drive letter and can no longer run Forge, a Gradio browser based Ai GUi for Stable Diffusion XL on it

it is a permissions issue according to the CMD error and I tried many fixes to no avail, ended up copying the entire folder to my C drive NOT into the programs folder (another issue often) and it now runs perfectly

Carrara runs fine in programs folder on this PC but it didn't originally on my old Win7, because now it's in Programs but its actually on the E drive hardlinked to the tiny SSD C drive, my entire desktop and user data on that PC is actually on my E drive but looks like it is on the C drive

Poser 7 on the otherhand insisted on being on the actual C drive in the program folder to run, weird stuff

these things are very iffy at times and behave differently on every computer

"could it be a permissions issue with the drive?"
I don't see how it could knock out certain functions in Carrara.
For now I'm using Carrara on an older computer, and it's running fine.

"my entire desktop and user data on that PC is actually on my E drive but looks like it is on the C drive"
    That's a good trick. ;)
Does that make it portable? How did you do it?

I actually didn't, the shop that replaced my failing C drive with a SSD did because back then they were very small, only 200GB

but it's something you can do in command prompt, I would need to Google it like I do everything cheeky

I have no idea why your PC is giving grief with Carrara, was only making one of many possible suggestions

the scarier one is your drive is failing

install somewhere other than in the Program Files folders...

check your AV ( if you are using a third party one ) isn't stopping certain functions.

maybe copy your complete Carrara folder from your old PC onto a thumb drive and paste it into a Carrara folder on your laptop in a place other than the Program Files folders. I did that with Carrara, Bryce and Hexagon with no probs. enlightened

@WendyLuvsCatz   "... the scarier one is your drive is failing"  =O

@Stezza,  thanks will try it. I uninstalled 8.5,  maually re-installed....same problems.
Then copied the folder from C drive to another external HD (didn't know you could do that)
    but same problems.

I'll try copy/pasting the folder from the old computer to the external drive, and try running it from there.

15min later.... WOW! It worked!  smiley
I just launched it from the flash drive, no problems! I would have never thought of that.....too easy! =P

It didn't even ask me for a key or ser#. Doesn't it have to have entries in the Registry?

I just need to tell it where the content is now.

Thanks for all the help from you both. smiley
