If you try to fit it to G9 it will open an autofit dialouge, where it asks which character it was made for (G8), and then it will run. You can choose different templates, and the choise of template can change how the conversion is.
If the original has custom bones they will not be there after transformation.
Then how well it fits G9 can change. There might be some weightmap you want to edit, or there might be some mesh parts that needs a little correction. If small it might be done inside Daz Studio, but more likely in a modeller. Or you might just decide to live with it. It depends on your usage of that item.
