I am asking here because I surely cannot be the only person who struggles to render this clothing set
yes I know it's heavy
8K textures, SubDiv4
however reducing both still is quite slow and with the full load it stills stays below 10GB VRAM rendering
it just takes 10 mins full, 3 mins reduced to SubDiv2 on my 2080Ti
I can load it fully in Filament however and set viewport SubDiv to 4
dforce simulated for my 1800 frame animation beautifully
it's the 2 and a half minute load time BEFORE it does any samples that seems the issue, each, frame
I posted this elsewhere but suggestions were all things I tried and made no real difference
not sure if any of the posters actually loaded and tried it

digging up this necrothread from the dead to whine
https://www.daz3d.com/the-last-vampire-hunter-hd-dforce-clothes-and-weapons-set-for-genesis-9
takes over 6 mins a frame to render
30 iterations!!!
(as low as I can go to even get a render with denoiser)
all the G9 character below the neck is hidden
it simulated faster
I am on frame 78 after 6 hours 53minutes
I don't think I will be doing my 1954 frames
it's a lovely outfit but
I may need to drop all the HDmorphs which is a shame as I deliberately did a png series with alpha to use them
he hasn't even got hair
In the "What's Included" it says textures 8192x8192. Not "up to 8192x8192", so I take it ALL textures are sized like that. So you're better off than me, as I wouldn't even able to look at the Iray preview with my measly graphic card ram.
OTOH checking the texture files and reducing the not totally needed ones to smaller size might help you a lot without changing the look too much. Good luck for that.
Have you tried scaling the textures down to 2k and see how it affects your render time?
well now that's been pointed out, I will use scene optimiser
just never expected it on clothes
props and buildings yeah, skins definitely but cloth??? well that's a first
Agree
Scene Optimizer is essential for bigger projects, no doubt about it.
I made a comic in 2017 with my old computer with 15 characters (as far as I remember) as extras in a scene.
Always use base resolution and 1k resolution on textures works just fine for background extras.
it didn't shave off much time
the 5X subdivision in render is more the issue
I ended up using Filament with Viewport Subdivision cranked up to 5 too
video
I did, I have used it quite often,
also
GPU-Z shows under 6GB of VRAM used, I have over 11GB
it just takes a damned long time to load each frame
And I might add reaches 80% convergence at 30 iterations
I am curious about the experience of others who own this set
DAZ-Deals has no forum links other than mine so I couldn't scope it out
setting subdivision to 2 on all the clothes instead of 4 does get it around 3 mins
however here is where it gets weird
letting it full converge (about 170 samples) only takes a minute longer than my FAST animation settings of 10 samples with denoiser kicking in at 8
it doesn't spend much time actually rendering but sits loading everything each frame
yes they are 3K x 3K but 1080 x1080 is not any faster
I use 3K for my full body png series so I can do close ups too zooming in in my video editor
I set resolution to 0 in the viewport
note Filament goes quite fast with subdiv 4 in viewport and honestly doesn't look too bad with my prefered environment settings,
a point light for shadows
Filament draw options
around 1K Environment intensity
scene light scale 350
I usually use a geoshell 0 Y scale drop shadow since no floor, didn't here

My machine(I'm not near it at the moment and I don't know the specs off the top of my head), struggles with this one and the Dark Sovereign set. I tried rendering the second in a Stonemason setting and my 5 year old rig about gave up the ghost. Luthbel's sets are amazing with incredible detail(so I realize there's a computing price to pay for that detail) and I'll keep buying them forever, but the recent ones are almost beyond the abilities of my machine(I know I'll need to upgrade in the next year or so, but like everyone, funds are tight).
I have that one wishlisted
I thought it was just my potato struggling with Last Vampire Hunter. Well, off the wishlist goes Dark Sovereign. I thought that at 4K it might be easier.
Has anyone checked out the polygon count? Is there any displacement going on?
the new UI makes that harder to see at a glance in DAZ but I exported a base animated FBX and that was big but not massive
don't recall the actual file size high around 170K I think but with a 1800 frame animation not abnormal, doesn't really give an actual indication of polycount the fact it easily loaded in my other softwares says it's not heavy at base
the subdivision and HDmorphs give the details
but in DAZ studio dialing it down to 1 in viewport 2 in render should have fixed that,
it didn't
I had other issues sadly with parented props as often do with FBX export depending how they are set up
but that's besides the point
polycounts below
(hate the lack of separate tab)
aside, got the outfit easily into Carrara following the usual proceedure of converting to blended weight and saving as scene subset
admittedly only diffuse maps but that was not the issue from what I can tell, Carrara also doesn't mind big maps and Octane render uses out of core too so I will add them

I spoke too soon about Carrara and this is odd
while it loads and renders fine in Carrara native render
Octane it is inexplicably slow
nowhere near as slow as DAZ studio mind you but not what I expected
it is reducing estimated time as it progresses however and may still end up the 10 hours at most which is within reason
it (Dark Sovereign) is, on sale today too
I am still thinking about it, I do like the look of it and I did get the Last Vampire Hunter into iClone easily (omitted cloak) adding and attaching the weapon props there
so what ever is going on is a DAZ studio only thing I have yet to solve
Wendy, in the past week I have been having issues with renders going black, D|S crashing, and things I never experienced before on both my MacMiniM4 and Win11 with a RTX4090 card. I thought it was the hairs which had ungodly high vertices count (over a million), yet I have used them before without issue. I ended going to G2 era hairs to complete the renders it got so bad. I was not using the Alpha but the Beta on each machine. Could there be an external OS or other factor giving us issues? I do have this outfit but have never had reason to use it.
memcneil70 I am using the 4.24 release and haven't seen any issues with other stuff
I also have lots of Luthbel's products and other heavy outfits, dialing down subdivision usually fixes issues
and there isn't even smoothing on it
that's why this one is such a puzzle
You're the queen of making-things-work. I interpret three levels of fusstication as a sign that I need to try a different product. And I'm almost exclusively Studio.
OK think I solved this
it's not the size of the maps but the number of channels that use maps which is rather a lot even if it's the same map
limiting it to metalicity, base colour, roughness and normal makes a huge difference
Good to know. I'll just eliminate them from the beginning.
I hadn't seen your post, but I loaded up Friday HD for G9Fem and dressed her in the pants, tunic and boots only, used an HDRI and Painter's Lights. But before I added the HDRI and lights, I first tested with spot render that only took 1min 57 secs. So I went ahead. She is just under 2.9m vertices. I was scared to try the full outfit to be honest.
Edit to add, this was done on my MacMini M4. So no Nvidia card. CPU only. Five minutes 13.58 seconds.
