Installing 3rd Party Content on MAC

Hi. I am having the hardest time installing some things I got from Renderosity, RenderHub, ect. When i got into the files some of them dont have a content file but they do have a data file. And when I opened a ticket with renderosity, they said that was my problem and closed the ticket, and stopped responding to me. So if anyone has any advice I'd grately appreciate it. I've spent hundreds and haven't been able to properly install half of it. (Bad move on my part)

What is the product supposed to be? If it's a set of morphs it's possible there are only data files and no user-facing files you'd find in content library.

In that case, after installing you would simply have new morph dials in the parameters and/or shaping tab (depending on the kind of morph) of the target figure.

There should be user facing files in 'your content library' > People > Genesis 8 > Female > Clothing > serzart and potentially a subdirectory to that.

    Where are you looking?

Anyway, the way to install 3rd party content so it shows in content library tab is rather straightforward:

    • unzip the file to a temp folder to see what's inside
    • locate the "main directory" in what you've extracted: that will be the one where you find the main folders like Runtime, data, People... (Product zips usually will have a few folders above those, like "my library", "content" or one with the product name)
    • take whatever subfolders you'll find in that "main directory" and move them to your install directory, merging them with the ones that already exist there (eg merge "data" from the temp folder with the one in your install directory, same for Runtime, and so on)

Emphasis on merge: that's the default behavior when you copy over a folder under windows, but IIRC not on macOS.

This is what is inside the file. There is no main directory, unless this is it.

Yes, you want to merge those with the existing folders of the same name in your active content directory.

Yes, the main folders are directly at top level in this product zip.
So now you take the data, People, Runtime and Documentation folders extracted from the zip, and merge each of them with the matching folder in your install directory.

So I did that. I still get this response (See attached) and the items show up as grey blocks

Sadly, no, it's not the default behavior on MacOS (at least with Finder) and it's quite easy to delete a lot of content…

I don't know if more recent version of MacOS fixed that (I'll update one day…), but with MacOS 13 (Ventura), by default, Finder will not provide the option to merge when someone is draging and dropping folders on the same drive (but will offer it when dragging and dropping folders from one drive to another…).

My main advice to limit the impact of losing data is using a library created only for third party content. Damage will at least be limited to that library if a mistake is made and this way, it's not possible to mess with the content of the library managed by DIM.

The safest way is to COPY the folders someone wants to merge (in this case, 'data', 'Documentation', 'People' and 'Runtime'), then to PASTE them inside the root folder of the Daz library used to store the content someone wants to install.

If everything when as it should, a popup window should be opened by Finder and one of the option should be MERGE.

If Merge is not among the available option, Abort must be chosen: it means that for an unknown reason, Finder thinks the content of the first folder it is trying to paste is identical and in this case, folders will have to be merged one by one (same process, Copy / Paste and chose Merge or Abort if Merge is not available).

After a while, it should be second nature, but one thing to always keep in mind: never ever ask Finder to cancel a Merge by hitting CMD+Z… instead of removing what it added to during the merging process, it may remove everything inside the destination folder…
