Can I Exclude a Camera from Undo/Redo?

COMIXIANTCOMIXIANT Posts: 260

Does anyone know of a way to exclude the camera (the one I'm viewing the scene through) from the Undo/Redo buffer?

I always create a camera and view the scene through that, when working in Daz Studio.  The problem is that every pan, rotation, and zoom of the viewport when looking through that camera, counts as an edit that adds itself to the Undo/Redo buffer.  For example, if I adjust a morph dial and then pan, rotate, and zoom the camera to view the edit from different angles, and then decide that I don't like the morph dial adjustment.  Well, in order to undo the morph adjustment, I first of all have to click to undo the zoom, and then again to undo the pan, and then again to undo the rotation, and yet again to undo the actual morph adjustment I made.

So I'm wondering if there's a way to prevent the (viewed-through) camera navigation, from being collected in the Undo/Redo buffer in the first place.  It's drivng me absolutely nuts, and it would be a real sanity saver if there was a way to exclude it from the buffer!

Would love to exclude camreas/lights from timeline as well!

That is the purpose of the perspective view mode.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you can do that, but I don't recall how.

I know (and most times that's what I'm doing), but I'm in-and-out of Iray mode far too often for that to be workable without getting annoying.  It's ok for doing the bulk of the work, but when I'm nearing the point of wanting to do a final render with depth of field effects included, there's no option than to switch to a scene camera.

I don't know if this will help you, but BJ Camera Manager Plug-In provides an easy way to switch between cameras/views that is far less obtrusive than the default method.

    Thanks for the suggestion, xyer0.

It sure looks like a superb plugin, in fact I looked into that around a month back, but it wouldn't work in this case since it would still require me to switch cameras, and that's what I'm trying to avoid,  It's the repeated switching between viewport and camera that is getting old, so I'd rather just exclude the camera from the Undo/Redo buffer altogether if possible (which sadly, I don't think it is).

A script can be used to make the hidden properties on the views accessible, just remember that doing thiis will key chnages to those hidden propertes and add those chnages to the undo stack.

Not if you use it to its fullest. Render preview in the Aux viewport (preferably on a second monitor) and navigate in Perspective View :)

..one of the things I like about Gimp is you can selectively edit the undo stack.

It sounds as if you misunderstood the issue I was having, but cheers, handy to know!

You have no idea how much I've suffered over the years through not being aware of the Aux Viewport!

Cheers, it's absolutely perfect.  It even fixes another issue I had with Daz Studio, one where the split view was as good as uselss (to me) since it synced the panning of the viewports.  No such issue with the Aux Viewport, though.  Looks as if it's independent in every way.  I wish I'd asked sooner!

Since I'm planning to move over to Linux any week now, I've been playing around with GIMP 3 these last few days.  I've always liked GIMP, but there were certain aspects of the workflow I couldn't get along with.  Looks like they finally fixed it, and after completely customising the interface, switching to 'Light Theme' mode and scalling the UI, it's been super-enjoyable so it looks as if I'll be moving back to GIMP.

Of course, it's a major plus that it's native Linux as well.
