Introducing Character Into Scenes

Hey guys I have been using daz for 2 years now, I always wondered how you guy introduce character in the scene. I have been saving them seperately and use to merge the enviornment and  characters by going to File>Merge. I am not sure if this is a correct method but I havent asked and always wonder is this a right way to do it.  Also if there is any other way does the other way helps in making scene less heavy and cost less VRAM ?

I would suggest a scene subset or Persona preset.

A scene subset can contain whatever you want to include, so it can be one or more character and/or environment or props.

A persona preset is rather new, and it can save one character with all items parented to the character.

If it is just single character you are using, I think persona preset should be preference.

I have all my characters (with their most common outfits) and common settings saved in different scene subsets, and I File>Merge in whatever I need.

I now the persona presets exist now, but... well, my system works for me, and I don't particularly feel the need to re-invent the wheel.

I largely do what SilverGirl does.

When I get a new character, I play about with them, find hair, clothing and jewellery that work with them, apply any morphs, makeup geoshells, tattoos etc. I feel the character needs. After that try various poses to see whether they suit everyday poses or are restricted to 'catwalk model dislocating hip while pretending to be a normal human being doing..' type poses. Then I name the character if the base figure name is still visible and apply a group to the character and all clothes etc.. The grouping allows me to hide the character, eyebrows, clothing and jewellery with a single click on the group, without the group it can take many clicks to completely hide a character. Finally the character gets saved as a scene subset.

To use the character, I just double click in the character subset in the library and because it's a scene subset, it merges automatically.

    Regards,

    Richard.

  • Does Persona Preset help with GPU VRAM memory thing I am struggling with becasue everytime I put 2 or more charcter it lags and gives black renders. I thought maybe I am putting characters wrong or something I tried multiple fix but this black screen always sticks. I saw people putting multiple charcters in the scene and is 8Gb not enough anymore for 8.1? Like even 1 subd everything it cant render. Hiding all the props even walls not enough to render a basic scene. What am I missing I put thresholds went from 2k to FHD, cut the lights, max samples and texture compression to 512, reduce light path lengths nothing fixes it.

I can't imagine persona preset will save VRAM, as it basically a way to save a character with objects.

For saving VRAM, check subd level of all the items. Also SBH can be hard on memory.

You can also use something like https://www.daz3d.com/scene-optimizer

    to reduce texture sizes.

Nothing saves VRAM except changing the size of textures or lower SubD settings. You should look into getting Scene Optimizer if you are having VRAM issues.
